I find supermarket shopping very expensive as I buy stuff that looks / sounds nice that I don't really need. Basically I don't need to buy any veggies but do need some fruit. Make my own bread, milk is delivered, loo rolls, washing powder etc bought on the internet in bulk, meat generally bought from farmers market / farm shops when on offer. That doesn't leave much but I do like using Northern Harvest who are very fab round here

Shopping whilst hungry is far more dangerous when at a "real" shop than when online (which can be done whilst munching on dry roasted peanuts).

I just had my second delivery. We decided to get a bulk order of heavies in; to last 2-3 weeks.

It came early. A good 2 hours early.

We had a voucher for a free wine from last time.

Nothing missing or replaced.

Once I'd squeezed everything into t'freezer/fridge and cupboards; I can say I'm a happy bunny.

Working from home today so well chuffed that it's now all sorted and I can get back on with work.

...... many years ago did get an order off T&sc* where they'd kindly replaced a chicken with a box of biscuits as a substitute - even the driver looked bewildered

I know that when on line shopping was in its infancy the computer 'suggested' alternatives for an out of stock item. I'm wondering if the biscuits were crackers. Both chicken and cheese biscuits have a similarity about them; particularly as all items are abreviated on the computer lists.

There is an urban myth that someone received Twix as a replacement for Tampax. Well, what do computers know?

I have a Trashco delivery every 5/6 weeks cos it's difficult bulk shopping on the bus
It's all the heavy/bulky stuff - tins, cat litter and food, laundy stuff, loo rolls, bread flour, some frozen meat, and anything that is on offer, but only if I would normally buy it. Cheese offers have been good lately, so there are a few packs in the freezer ATM
Most of my veggies are from the plot, but any I haven't got and things I'd rather choose for myself like fruit get bought once a week when I get the bus to town.

I too hate shopping - can't send Mr P or we'd be eating chips forever. I eat whatever I've scrounged from the allotment that week combined with whatever meat is haunting the back of the freezer.

OH does the shopping every week from a list that he has put on the computer and prints off. It contains every single thing we buy at the supermarket and as I work there we get 10% off, most weeks spend around £100, not a lot of veg if any, little fruit, no meat as we eat mostly vegetarian food. If daughter is with him it can be a bit more but she doesnt ask for much. Tend to buy bulk items at the begining of the month when he has been paid. We dont keep a huge amount of surplus in the cupboards or freeze ( that contains mostly things that we have grown so not much room ).
I used be a dot com shopper so I know what its like from both sides.

Thelma, I didn't know cheese could be frozen, does it change the taste or texture? I don't know why i've never thought of doing this as I freeze butter.

Typically, there was loads of reduced cheese in M tonight.

It's usually hard cheese like cheddar that you freeze and some is better than others. Good idea is to grate the cheese and freeze then its ready to chuck in quiches etc........

You can freeze any cheese; mozzarella through to the hardest cheeses. Think - if you can buy things frozen, then you can freeze them yourself, and you can buy frozen pizzas hence cheese can be frozen. I don't freeze much to be honest as I have a tiny freezer. I'll only freeze Mozz if we open one and don't use it all in one sitting.

I just freeze it as it comes, sometimes it goes a bit crumbly...but not so bad that you cant slice most of it

we used to live in London and have no car: compared to lugging a week's worth of cans and meat on the scrum of S London buses, online shopping was a godsend.
Now we no longer live in Souf London, and do have a car, I have tended to go to the supermarket, but now am thinking of reverting to online grocery shopping for my main shop, because I can do it late at night when the munchkin (3 years) is asleep. more time with him, and less wheedling for a Hot Wheels car from the toy aisle.

I could never do the main shopping online, becuse I tend to rely on 'reduced for quick sale' items, and you don't get those unless you go to the shop.
We usually drop in on the way back from walking the dogs.......
I don't make lists, I cook with what I've got rather than planning what to cook. For some people the 'plan everything and stick to it' approach works, for me it would stop me enjoying cooking!
