I've heard that gas given off by bananas helps to ripen other plants - that's why they tell you not to put them in your fruit bowl with all the other stuff (although I do!) I tried banana skins in the greenhouse to ripen the last toms one year. Not sure it made much difference but the greenhouse smelt like that banana flavoured medicine we used to get as kids!

I was reading an old herbal book a while ago and it said that rosemary will grow well 'where the mistress is master'.
