Won the Lottery? How Would You Protect Your Money?

The BH and I were talking about this today in the car: it's all very well winning a fortune on the lottery, for instance Friday's £39 million, but how would you protect it?

Banks and government bonds aren't safe, property isn't a brilliant option...although I'm told land might be a good investment as they aren't making any more of it.

What would you do?

The best way for me to protect my money would be not telling the inlaws where I am

Nowhere is really safe these days but land sounds like a good investment as are the wee independant banks, we have one just along the road and that's where I'd deposit my winnings, definately wouldn't go with any of the big banks.

I'd buy a house in the middle of a huge wood and become a recluse - Oh, and have a garden and an orchard.

I think I would opt for land to safeguard most of it and have a b****y good time spending the rest!

I'd buy enough land to set us up with a beautiful house and garden and keep enough to last the rest of my days and give the remainder to my children and let them worry about it.

If I had bought the nice house, land, (ok farm) car etc there would be little left to protect. And at the rate that amount would produce interest in even an ordinary savings account..why worry?
You would only need to protect it if you were about two years old and wanted it to last your lifetime. Or if you were going to pass it on to descendants. I'm too old to think about the first and haven't got descendants, I'd throw whatever I was giving to friends and rellies at them straight off and let them worry.
