Just a little point ........when youngest was going through carp at her previous employ I did read that they were not allowed to mention about any disciplinary action in case it was appealed and found untrue then the employer could be done for libel/slander and also as a point of interest when a reference was not forthcoming they were told they could be sued for loss of earnings .....

Two things are very apparent (a) you dislike your job now it has changed. (b) you dislike the people you now have to work with.

Years ago I would have most likely belted the slimey manager and walked. Well I was a stupid hot head back then.

Now knowing they going to get rid of me sooner or later I would now make it sooner (less stressful) but on the best terms I could negotiate with regards to pay and references.

However me being me after the deal was done and dusted I would have my say and tell them exactly what I think of them, but only after I had the money and paperwork in my hands.

The only underhand trick I might use would be to have my mobile on voice record during the meeting. Just in case someone let something slip that very senior management should hear about at a later date.

Which ever way you decide Good Luck.

I thought that the warning procedure was statutory? If that is the case and they went straight to first written, then you do have a cause for complaint, and could threaten industrial tribuneral.
However, if it was me I would
talk to HR and point out the companys faults, insist that they go with you and give fair representation
go to the meeting, stand my ground,
find any old job very fast and quit
Incidently if they do fire you, well, I have only ever been fired once but when I went to my next job interview I was totally honest, gave them a brief balanced tale of what had happened and simply provided good refs from several previous employers to back it up.
Remember you can always ask your previous manager (the one who placed proper value on your work)from that company to give you a referance too..tell prospective employers that due to changes in company policy you feel that you will not get a fair ref from the current bosses, and wish them to have that to balance it.

In every company I've worked for, HR has been on "their" side, not the employee's (as Zaz said already) - and in fact HR were often/usually drinking buddies with the line managers trying to lever unwanted people out of the company

"grievance procedures" weren't worth the paper they were written on.

I'm with Zaz, get out asap with a reference and payoff, and best of luck to you. It's a nasty thing to happen, esp. after you've worked your butt off for them for so long

It sounds like to me they are trying to "manage you" out of the company, are they trying to downsize the company? this could be thier way of not paying redundancy..........Gits

You cannot record someone without their permission. Most compaies would not give you permission to do this in a meeting. If you record a meeting without the participants permission, the 'evidence' would not be admissible in a Tribunal; and you could find yourself in some serious hot water for doing this. Mr OWG recently had this issue at work. The person who had been recording meetings without permission was sacked for gross misconduct immediately (and they were recording to protect themselves).

Zaz is right - pushing for a CA would be a good idea. Go in the meeting and lay it on the table - they want you out, you'd like to go, and if the offer is right, you'll go and not make a fuss. A CA often includes a standard reference, and your agreement that you won't go further with this (and neither will the company).

Thanks all for the advice, Ive emailed my boss and made an offer of resignation, if he stops the disciplinary then I will work my notice, if he doesnt, then I will resign effective immediate. I cant take this carp any longer, although I havent got anything lined up I do have some strong leads, so hopefully one of them will come through soon, and if not, well, at least it will give me some time to get the plot back into order and to get myself physically fit again!

At least you have come to a decision Suzanne. I hope it all turns out well for you, and believe me you will feel so much better when you don't have to work with this idiot any more.

As RL said, it's good that you have come to a decision no matter how hard it has been for you. Onwards and upwards lovely lady - good luck with the leads - here's hoping that you get something with twice the pay and half the stress

I think you'll be surprised how much better you feel when your resignation is accepted.

I hope it's not too long before you find a better job that you enjoy!

You can ~ journalists do it all the time, and CCTV is filming us all without our permission. I have a camcorder on my bike and frequently send the footage to the police, they've never told me I can't do it.

It may be different if you are filming on an employer's property though: there are probably special rules for this (as it's effectively private property)
