We currently pay £87 per month by DD to Scotpower and that is a combined bill for both G&E - there are two of us in a three bed house, it has gas heating, I work from home - and we are usually in (small) credit to them.

Our leccy was £30 pcm on dd, with gas an extra £60 pcm. I've now swapped back again (3rd change in 4 yrs) to EDF and it'll be just under £90 for dual fuel pcm

I'm glad I checked my account, because it seems that EDF are taking my money but haven't cancelled the old supplier, so I've been paying both. Twits.

As the OP hasnt mentioned gas i'd assume there isnt any.
It's well worth digging out a few old bills, tap all your usage/costings into uswitch etc etc you may make a saving.
If you have gas and elec it normally pays to get both from the same supplier, usually a 'duel fuel' discount. Many suppliers give a discount if you manage online as well.

Good thread as it has made me look at my monthly DD and I think I am getting ripped off!

Dual fuel with Scot Power - 2 bed terraced cottage - two adults who are out 5 days a week

£117 per month!! I am normally in credit by £300

            Off to check new tarrifs...............

Solar Panels rule! I have 10 on my house! The bills are really low, but I advise you to everything in the daytime/when the sun is high if possible, like washing machine, dishwasher, tumble dryer etc. You can get an owl monitor which shows you how much are you using. And when you boil the kettle it really breaks your heart as it uses more than a washing machine and dishwasher combined!

Our roof is huge and south facing, we really should look into this, but the rules keep changing & we're nervous

Yes, but the kettle is only on for about 2 mins.

If you're really tight, you could fill a Thermos for drinks instead of boiling the kettle each time

Our Electric is about £65 a month. I have a large chest freezer and a power shower which is used quite often (2-3 times a day) although I try and limit everyone to 5 mins....
We have gas central heating and cooker.

We currently use British Gas but I am seriously considering joining these guys:

                    kettles

My oh is always boiling a full kettle and forgetting to make the tea, then he'll boil it again make the tea and leaves it till it goes cold, and then.....he nukes it over and over!!! How much must that cost? Not only that but what must it taste like at the end of it. I make my own tea now.

I'm looking into getting a smaller kettle and I know people that have ones that you put your cup under and it just heats the water you put in it when you press the button. Guessing they're expensive though.

Did you know that the government if going to halve the amount that people with solar panels and the like can sell their excess energy for? So much for being the greenest government ever!

Steve we had 26 fitted! 6.11KW.

Twosheds you have missed your moment. Until December 12th the contract started at 43p/minute for a 4KW system for 50% and 46p for the other 50%. That was whether you used it or not.

They announced last week from 12th December any install is only 21p a unit.

There isn't time I wouldn't have thought to get quotes in and the install before 12th December.

My installers on Tuesday (I ordered it over a month ago) said they were now working 7 days a week until 12th December to catch up on all the people who were dithering but have now confirmed their orders. And that was on the day the difference was announced.

I still have to get my certificate when my cheque clears AND get it accepted by the power company before my tie in is activated and I get the higher rate.

Basically - it's probably not worth it now.

The new ones that run on daylight as opposed to sunlight are more appropriate for the UK. I lived in a country where the sunshine always shone and they worked brilliantly. If the cost comes down for the pipe around your garden then I would look at that. Or the bore pipe thingy...
