When we were between countries for a couple of years, we were told we could only have full discount if there were no beds in there. (That was a couple of years ago though)
As Mikeywills says- most insurance policies won't cover if left 'empty' for more than 30 days ( does that imply nights I wonder???)
    (How secure is the building?)

I think if the furniture is stored so it looks like it is being stored, and not used - if any nosey sod did peep through, they'd see you weren't living there. I'd not say anything though - if they do find out, just invite them around to have a look?

Try the valuation office agency website. Should be a definitive answer there. Voa.gov.uk

I think that beneficial occupation is a key test. Are you benefiting from occupation. Probably......will they expect you to pay. Probably.

Security will be an issue to insurers for the obvious reason that if items are stored in an "empty" house it is no longer empty and more likely to be targeted by professional emptiers.

Good luck with your deliberations and decision.

        Loving my allotment!
