      Just watched DVD.

      What a let down.

The guy (dont know his name) got on my nerves immediately. He rambles, dithers and makes the easiest job look complicated and it looks like he doesnt like getting his hands dirty. What is with all the kissing, do they not live together and just meet up to make the videos. Does the woman ever smile?

This looked like they had 3 hours to fill so they spent as much time as they could cooking their dinner. I know its called A Pennine Kitchen and Garden but if I wanted a cookery dvd I would have bought Delia's.

Sorry about that but I was really looking forward to watching this but was very disapointed and frankly bored.

This is just my opinion I am sure other people wont feel the same, but I feel much better now I have got that out of my system.

Its not fantastic in my opinion. It's ok.

However I really liked the Coloured labels in my pack, (did anybody else get coloured ones..?)

And the DVD i got was the February episode on the Pennine Garden. :

Yes, I got coloured labels too. Nice variety of seeds (for next year). Feel the magazine has a deja vu feel about it. . That's all my *pocket Money* spent for this week

Agree with the comments of Seasprout & LaurenGrows. She who must be obeyed thought I was absolutely crackers paying that price for a magazine.

I've pretty much decided not to buy it, unless I win lotto or summat....
              1. I have plenty of seeds
              2. I have plenty of labels (plain white but spect I'll live)
              3. Why do I want a DVD about Feb., when it's nearly May?
              4. I can't afford it, my eldest needs school trousers!

I recently bought The Allotment set of DVDs which is quite good, and I haven't watched them all yet.

Wise move - I took the plunge and was very disappointed.
Lets look at the freebies, the seeds are okay but probably from the same offer that GYO ran and the cost was just p&p £1.99 in the GYO offer, the DVD was absolutely the worst thing I ever saw and I only watched about 20 minutes, the labels yeah right and the wall planner was okay, the magazine itself was okay but had less pages that the monthly GYO and had a lot of adverts and what is cutely called "Advertisement Feature". I cant even give it away to a friend or doctors surgery as sugested in the magazine because I am to embarrassed

I was going to go out today on a special buying trip just for this mag - I may change my mind!

So is it *worth* nine quid?

I have all the seeds I need (want is a different matter!)

Labels, yeah, Wall planner - Ok, got one in the GYO a month or so back

And from all your comments the DVD is nothing to write home about!

I'll hold off for a few days and see what you all think

it doesn't sound worth £9 of my money.

Bit disappointed too - seeds are OK but already have the ones I want and I quite like the idea of the sections on how to for the various seeds. However can't see why it cost so much, apart from the freebies (not watched the DVD but the write ups don't look good yet) there was nothing extra from the usual mag. Won't be bothering with any future releases.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I have my copy and I loved opening the goody bag! It's a well thought out idea as the magazine seems to relate to the free seeds, the only slightly sad part is the timing....this would have been great for January, before I had bought my basic seeds for the year.

I agree with Headfry, would have better to offer this mag in February.

Forgot to add..... watched some of the DVD......hmmmmm this retails for £10 for each month...£120 for the year.
                            Sound was very, very poor......
                            very, very 'homemade'
A lot of talk about sort of 'green issues, air miles, chemicals but not much talk on growing.
It's a nice idea, but a little tiresome after the first hour!
I like the 'welcome to my house idea' and the month by month growing and cooking style, but some basic technical areas of the recording really quite poor for £10 a month.

Dont forget guys and gals - we have had the benefit of the Grow Your Own mag, well, for however long we've been reading it....12 months for me. I think the purpose of the Lets Grow Veg mag was to encourage newbies to take up our super hobby - so for those who are really new to growing their own and havent read anything else, this mag was just the ticket! Seeds, labels, a dvd and detailled info on how to grow the seeds provided. Good in my book! In fact, have just got a couple of friends into this and have recommended the magazine as they have no knowledge of growing their own veg - ideal for them methinks!

I think you might have a point there, dexterdoglancashire. After having acquired this mag, I have gone through much of the same emotions mentioned by other in this thread. I just wondered what will make me fork out £10 again, if I can just as well buy GYO.

In defence of LGV: I can see that it has drawn from the expertise of GYO. the overall presentation is very good and the publisheers shoudl be recognised for that. If I knew nothing of gardening and wanted to start, then LGV would have been a good buy and I probably would not have bought anything else. The pages themselves are of a higher gloss standard and will last longer as a reference manual for growing different kind of veg. I think the selection of seeds supplied were good as well for beginners (except for the cauliflower). It is obviously a first edition and it might change over time.

In future I might treat it on face value, and if there is really something of interest in there, then I'll buy it, otherwise I would just stick to GYO.
