Tried my first attempt at Elderberry Vodka last night. Should it taste like very, very VERY nice cough mixture and send a trail of fire right down to your toes? Cos if it does there are going to be some very merry carol singers rolling round the village in December!

        So.......

........when does everyone start putting up the decorations? I usually hold off until December 1st, but I have such lot to do, what with work etc etc, that I'm contemplating starting very soon so that home looks good even if the rest of my world is chaos. In fact, the Christmas greenery is still hanging in the hall from last year (takes so long to get it up, fluff it into shape whilst scratching yourself to bits, I thought I'd leave it). Just hope there's no spiders....

Thinking of putting the lights on my roof terrace up as soon as the new 40cm long drill bit arrives, but will not turn them on until end of the month.

Speaking of it, drill bit just arrived, so will be hopefully staring on it tonight!

Advent callendar goes up on 30 Nov, cards as they arrive and all other decorations go up the weekend before Christmas. As kids we always did it the day after we broke up for the holidays, great family fun. Am off the week before Christmas so will probably put the tree up the weekend before but not make the wreath etc until about 22nd so that it stays nice - don't like it over before the event.

Since last year! Hasn't it gone brown and dry? Mine is always looking pretty dried up by 12th night let along a year later!

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Well, I hope not - it's artificial. We always have a real tree so that doesn't go up until last minute, but as we put decorations in nearly all of the rooms (in a biggish house with there being six of us) it does take time. I'm also trying to make chocolate every day and finish my sewing orders. We used to do a big family decorating thing but, now that we are all grown ups with different timetables and schedules, we no longer get the chance.

I think I need to start soon and do a wee bit every day until I've got it perfect.

Traditionally, when I was young, we would all have the day off school on the 6th December (my birthday - hint, hint). Mum and Dad would take us on the train to Oxford Street and we'd go and visit Father Christmas in Selfridges. We'd then spend the afternoon window shopping and looking at all the lights, then it was home to put up the Christmas Decorations. Happy, happy times.
Now I tend to leave putting them up until the week before.

I live sway from my parents so i can put them up when I like. I may have to start soon-ish because I can only do a tiny bit at a time these days, and have to move some furniture to make room for a tiny tree... I want to sort all books/papers etc out too first, so I suppose I can make a start on that now.
                      Go for it DG!
ANd...so THAT'S what an alexander is. I may have to do christmassy retro cocktails this year
