    In all my years in construction (almost 10), I have never seen the word "allotment/s" used in the scope of a development:

    In my local area, there is a present proposal to redevelop a brownfield site for housing.(Previously a paper mill) The developer was encouraged to include some allotments in the scheme and this was done at the consultation stage. Now going through the planning application and we are hopeful of this coming to fruition.

      Wayne been in the game 50 years and never heard of allotments in new build either. This can only be good news.

        Sounds great but being a surveyor I am a little sceptical. However it would be good if the allotments were secured by restrictive covenant and a long lease to prevent allotment sites becoming a later phase of the developments.

        If green belt land is used for future development then housing densities needn't be as tight as in the recent past so land for ongoing cultivation can be built in rather than on.

        It is great that allotments continue on trend!!! But the surges in demand if twitter gets hold will mean big rent increases to follow.

        Still good on Michelle Taylor at St Mods......everyone else take note!

            Don't get me started with developers, a local housing site got planning a number of years ago to build 1000 homes, our council set up agreements as to what infrastructure they would have to supply for this and it was all duly done. Now 3000 homes later the infrastructure put in is not capable of supporting the additional homes but because the council weren't very clever there are no further requirements for the developers to provide additional works. The school they build had to lose its fields to extend the school and add extra classrooms and now our local village school is having to double in size to accommodate all the extra children from the new homes.

            Developers, well I wouldn't trust them as far as I could throw them. They are a lot like politicians really.
            I'm only here cos I got on the wrong bus.
