I was still in nappies the last time Educators et al within the public sector vociferously took to the picket line; but have heard the nightmarish stories about what drove them to it. And now being one myself, I've had to think very carefully. I'm certainly not in it for the dosh, but it does make life easier! Each to their own though, I like living in a democracy. There are many men, women and carrier pigeons who have fought for that and for our livelihoods.

The disruption to my day? Well, if the blow away doesn't arrive, it rains or the wind is hanging a gale. That will really put my nose out of joint. Or I can't get pots for cordon trees...

I doubt I'll notice anything much at all - whilst I work from home usually I am actually out that day (whoooop, I get to wear proper clothes) at a girlie pre-Christmas lunch making merry

I believe we are only just seeing the tip of apathy changing to anarchy in this country. I support those who are making a stand - someone has to although those in the private sector are worse off, believe me!
We could learn from the French who take their tractors on main routes and bring the country to a virtual standstill.

If snow closed the ferry/bridge, you'd find another way to work but would be unable to blame someone.

If you have to have your kids home for one day, well you'd have to do that if they were sick. Or if you wanted to pull them out of school for a "day off" or a holiday.

Wed is our bin day. If our bin doesn't get collected, it will wait till next time. If we have overflow, we'll put stuff in a public street bin.

Like we said about the Free Day Off for the Royal Wedding - it's not The Blitz, it's just one day

Well let us all hope & pray that those who are actively supporting this day of action do not suffer from a medical emergency, heaven forbid this should happen but if it did, best hope & pray there are some conscientious medical staff that have followed their conscience rather than union advise
He who smiles in the face of adversity, has already decided who to blame

I think the unions are a lot less heartless than you percieve them to be.

I live on the Wirral in Merseyside and work in Liverpool. They are closing both Mersey Tunnels and the Ferry Cross the Mersey too!

This means a 40 mile hike through Cheshire just to get to the office. For me and up to 100,000 others who make the daily commute.

I think it will get me better terms on my pension though!

How does it disrupt your daily life personally?
                  Surely thats the point?

Hopefully it will do some good, and if it doesn't the unions will just have to 'up the ante.'
I personally am losing a days pay for something I believe in and may possibly lose more days/weeks/months pay in the future.
So be it. If people hadn't fought for their rights in the past.......we wouldn't have any rights!

Why are there intended picket lines at NHS hospitals proposed ?

I don't know BB but I dare bet there will be a skeleton crew still working to cover emergencies!

Re the Teachers' Pension Fund: it is in credit. There is enough money in it to pay teachers back the pension that they've been contributing to all their working lives, and far from being "gold plated", the average pension in March 2010 was £10,000.

The Govt are now robbing that pension fund to pay for other stuff. I don't think that's fair.
You mean like G Brown robbed money from the private pension funds?
