Sorry to say I'm one of those lurkers, don't oftem post because I'm too busy gleaning information from others, but you are never made to feel daft regardless of how simple your question is.

Found the site by chance and have stayed ever since

I agree with all the comments about the friendly atmosphere on this forum. I 'found' the vine while signing up for some freebies I had spotted in Grow Your Own magazine (didn't want to cut the mag up so did them online instead). It has been brilliant help to me in terms of advice and just 'friendship' too - thanks everyone. OH signed up to join in Sunday chats and now checks what I have been posting fairly regularly!! He must be reading other posts too as he did a fine job of sorting out the footings for our greenhouse over Easter weekend - thanks Madmax - can't wait to get the glass in now!

I love this place! It's the only gardening forum I belong to; I've never felt the 'need' to look elsewhere. However, it is a little too addictive - there are lots of jobs which don't get done, as I catch up with what everyone else has been up to.
Down at the inlaws this weekend, my Mother in law to be asked if I was part of a local gardening club at all (their neighbours are, and invited them round to talk gardens apparently). I replied that I wasn't but it felt like being part of an elite club with 'my gardening forum'. It truly is like having a whole bunch of friends (or grapes! ) Thanks guys!!

I work on my own all day in reception. It can be very lonely, never boring though as I love my job.....but, this forum is a life saver. If you can't get 'out there' then this is next best thing, and so very friendly too!

Glad I'm not the only one who found a comfy seat in my 'Home on the Web'. I do love this forum, even if I don't have a lot of expertise to share (yet).

With my health not being too brill I don' post every day at the mo, but do read everyone's comments and leave the other stuff to Bubblewrap. I must try and stop him posting those stupid amicons though - they can be a pain I know.

Log on more often, Grandpadragon. If I miss a day I have pages of new posts to go through. The Vine is my nighttime relaxation after a sometimes very hard day at work. Everyone's friendly and it's good to talk (even if it is via a computer link) By the time I get home, the neighbours are usually in bed and I don't think they would take kindly to being woken up.

My main request is please will everyone, when they join up, give a location! It doesn't have to be precise enough so that people can trace you but it does help enormously when being asked questions about last frosts or planting dates to know approximately where someone lives

Well said RL it has a bearing on other factors too and I think it should be made compulsory.
