We managed a pub, it was supposed to be a long term management, we up sticks and moved 100 miles from home 2 kids and a cat!, left everything behind in hope of a new life.

It was beautiful, idyllic country pub in a small village called North Marston, Bucks. The only thing in the village!. We made friends and we were settled believe it or not within days, everyone made us feel welcome. It was amazing.

We raised the pub from the ground, takings tripled! Kids settled at local school and we were happy. My husband (now) proposed to me in front of everyone at one of our amazing local events on loud speaker, something I will never forget, everyone around us was in tears.

A rumour started after about 7 weeks that someone had bought the pub, we called our bossed and they told us it was rubbish and even at one opint said they would wager £10k to prove so.

A week later they gave us 5 day notice to move out, telling us they were only a holding company and it was never permanent. We had to move lock stock and barrel home again, nothing, nudder, no home, job or money! we ended up in council emergency housing and the kids at a new school. Heartbreaking.

We are still in contact with some people we met and today I have been reminded of our time there.

Someone there, when we were going through the heartbreak of leaving and not knowing where we will end up, came into the pub one day and said listen to this, it is you two in a nutshell, dont ever let go of that!. Better together by Jack Johnson.

4 years later we played the song at our wedding as we signed the register.

All this happened 6 years ago and still sometimes only seems like yesterday.

I thought i would share this with you as I wonder how many people have gone through a similar potential life changing situation.

Things may not have gone as panned the way we hoped... but I cant tell you one thing... it was life changing and even just 9 weeks can make such an impact on someone life. xxx

Brilliant story - and a true one! I came back to the Vine to read it a second time.

It's great to read the good outcome brought about by yourselves. All best wishes.
