I have limited experience of public sector workers except for the NHS. I'm not going to slag them off because I have had both good and bad experiences there. One sector I have had experiences with leaves me thinking they don't know their a** from their e****. Pass the buck is the motto and loose your case in another department is a last resort, and a few months later they try to take you to court all over again. Not generally impressed.

    My heroes are the RNLI.

I don't have any problems with the public sector workers SWMBO is one, but the word is workers. There is far to much waste.

Under labour an extra 1 million public sector workers were employed, do you think your service's are that much better because I don't. However that was not the point of the exercise, the real agenda was to massage the unemployment figures and to hopefully secure an extra 1 million labour voters.

The big problem came during the down turn, the private sector just wasn't producing enough revenue to pay for them all so labour turned to massive international borrowing. Remember the infamous note left by one labour minister at the treasury 'good luck there's no money left'.

As to getting a refund for our taxes with the aptitude of the civil service middle and senior management it would cost far more to recover than its worth.

        How about:
Parents; you may be annoyed that your kids were off school today - if it wasn't for the unions your kids would have been at work.

Zaz. That's bull s....... You don't need unions to advance society! In fact many people can actually make their own minds up rather than be told what to do........

You can do a lot better than that!

Obviously lots of can make up our own minds but that doesn't change the fact that unions had a significant influence on things like child labour laws which can only be a good thing. OK not necessarily current but still true and certainly not manure.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

                    Oh dear.

Actually, sometimes you DO need unions to advance society. Didn't you attend your history classes?

Indeed, most reforms have been re-active rather than pro-active.........

One of the problems faced by unions is that they are now seen as political animals (No offence to animals) mainly because of their links with the labour party. Does anyone else remember beer & sandwichs.

Heres an idea I heard on the radio on the way home...
The strikes came, not much happened, no one died, the bodies arnt piling up, the kids are not off the rails (well mine at least), there were no riots, no crime sprees, no ambulances not getting to people in need etc etc....perhaps the gov't could consider large amounts of redundancies, save a shed load of cash! lol

Seriosly though, my 'quote of the day' was the union bloke on bbc essex -

'We school your children' - well yes, perhaps but when my childs reading record has spelling mistakes from the teacher in it, I think not.

'We run your hospitals' - yes huge waits, very dirty floors, no drinks or dignity for the infirm or elderly.

'we clean your public toilets' - now he's having a laugh, he must be having a laugh.

'We bury your dead' - well yes, they got me on that one, although gimme a shovel and some gloves and I'll save you all 30k a year!?

In short, I have decided that all public workers do a far better job than I do, and they deserve much more benefits/pirks/pay/pension/holiday than I do.
