Get up, walk around the house, wake up the dogs, go back to bed, read a bit more of my book until it falls on my nose, go back to sleep. At least, I think that's what I do as its so long since I've woken during the night and not dropped off to sleep again.
Many years ago, if I wanted to wake at 7, I'd bang my head on the pillow 7 times, then go to sleep and wake at 7. It always seemed to work but it sounds totally daft now! Maybe I try it again tonight and see what happens!

We're both suffering from similar at the moment. My head is in overdrive, as is Mr.G's. Trouble is, if we both wake at the same time, we keep each other awake by fidgeting. If we wake separately, we usually find the other is snoring, which makes sleep difficult for the woken one. Can't blimmin win!

At the weekend, we stay up later and have a few drinks, and sleep soundly. Then the blimmin dog wakes up early...

Mr TS is waking early, so I am too. I have to take sleeping tabs after several nights of it, to break the habit.

My favourite thing to do is to pack a flask of hot chocolate & my camera and go off to take dawn photos

I spent the night researching Java for DD. I stayed up 26 hours before going to bed just as she came online as I was sending her a zip file with ideas at 11. A java coursework program she's trying to write, and I've been acting as her researcher. I find ideas based on what she says she wants to do, and she modifies code etc to get it working in her program. To be honest it is keeping me up at night, trying to remember from 11 years ago when I did my degree, and I've been developing my own answer, tho we have totally different ideas on how to implement to meet the spec she's been given.
Deadline in Friday, midnight, and some of the others on the course are not starting until Thursday
I could not live without a garden, it is my place to unwind and recover, to marvel at the power of all growing things, even weeds!

(hmmm- my OH had a sleep apnoea test a few months back and was recorded at snoring louder than a lawn mower...strangely I find listening to the sound of a lawn mower very calming- esp if someone else is using it...so why isn't snoring relaxing??? hmmph)

This is going to make me sound like a right nutter but...

I have tinitus from when I had my wisdom teeth out ( nerve damage) - I also sometimes have insomnia a couple of times a year for some reason.

Someone got me a cd called inner talk which has relaxing music over voices telling you to sleep and also these tablets called Seditol which are essence of Magnolia. I'm not sure which it was but I've never had problems sleeping again, when I do I take a tablet and put my magic cd on.

My husband thinks it's all rubbish and he's probably right but I never stay awake anymore so Im a happy bunny.

I usually have a stern word with myself and remind myself that there's nothing I can do about ... whatever it might be in the middle of the night that's keeping me awake. I also find that lying curled up in a foetal position and thinking of my lovely mum helps me.
Sometimes, though, nothing works so I busy myself banning late night spammers on here mwahahahah

It started because I would wake up really early with back pain and couldn't put the heating on or have a bath because the boiler wakes Himself up. Rather than sit indoors sulking I took myself out and did something constructive.

The photos are beautiful TS and reflect how unselfish you are at letting Himself sleep on.

Luckily I've never had a problem with insomnia, might be something to do with the nightcap.

Cup of tea and either reading or a Suduko, anything to get the mind from going over and over whatever the trouble is! I have written lists and even drawn a planting plan for a flower bed I was planning on replanting. Radio Five Live used to have a great programme on called "Up All Night" which I have listened to before, although not recently, one between 1am and 5am.
