  • When you can't sleep you......?

OK, every time I have lots to do and organise ,like christmas etc I go through a faze of waking at 4am and not being able to nod off again. It's especially bad this year as my brother's getting married on the 29th December, and I'm doing the wedding flowers! This is going to mean a 4am trip to Nine Elms on the 28th and lots of organising inbetween. I'm fairly organised for christmas pressie wise and for the wedding .I'm wiring up everything that can be done before hand but I still wake, with stuff going on in my head and can't switch off.
It's not as though I can lay in as the alarm goes at 5am is for OH to be out of the house at 6 and mine goes of at 6:30.
HELP!!!! What do you lot do?

I know what you mean! I have a jotting pad and a pen beside the bed so I can quickly write things down and go back to sleep if I can. The worst part about dropping off again is that I usually have a weird dream which I wake up remembering a couple of hours later - not a good start to the day!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I count backwards from 1000, usually drift off before the first 100 is done

I find it helps if I turn my pillow over not sure why it makes a difference but it seems to.

I put some Hops and Lavender oil on my pillows. Helps me go off to sleep with no problems.

Pen and paper by side of bed.
Read, read, then read some more til I'm about to drop the book.
Always have a herbal drink and sometimes a herbal sleeping tablet.
I'm awake most nights ( times vary) anything from 20 mins up to 4 hrs.
I used to internet but found that too stimulating- so went back to reading.
Lack of sleep is dreadful and utterly exhausting. A short siesta early afternoon usually keeps me going to bedtime when I drop off immediately.

write big lists, and different ones for different things, tick things off, then you know you're organised, and don't have to worry in case you've missed something out, so theoretically, you should sleep through.
              works for me

All really good ideas. Might do the pen/paper one. I don't have any trouble dropping off it's staying asleep thats the problem. Have to say I'm able to tick lots more stuff of mt list as I've used today (off sick with sickness bug doing stuff between running to the loo!) to get more organised .
Failing that I'll see you on here VVG!

I find a very large malt whisky helps.

Yep have to agree with all of them.
Also try counting backwards from 1000 in 7s
                              So 993, 986, 979, 972 zzzzzzz
