Following on from OWG's thread about what's for dinner, do you have a special activity after dinner? You'll all smile when I tell you that the whole family join in with a round the table "Just for Fun", because everyone can join in. I know some folk enjoy a walk after dinner and some of my more "energetic" neighbours play party games. After everyone's gone home, it takes me a couple of hours to wash up.

Once the dining table is cleared and the soporific have nodded off, we do jigsaws. Always cartoon ones, we're not into cute cottages or fluffy kittens. Sounds boring, but out come the Christmas sweeties and the puzzles. I can usually manage a good bit of the piece sorting and puzzle building before I too join the nodders on the sofa....

Flo - I'm shocked your guests don't do the washing up for you!
One of the reasons we don't have a big roasty is that you feel like you have to have such a huge dinner that every pan and plate gets used up and it just becomes a chore not just cooking but doing the pots after.
After our food we flick rice at the tellybox and generally poke the fire, I do a quiz book, look desperately for things vaguely interesting that we may have recorded and then move onto 'watch again' to find something half decent to watch.
After 10 mins of that, I'll probably be on here blitzing spammers that got through the gates, doing searches for 'ugg' or 'pron' or 'loan'; that sort of thing.Last edited by zazen999; 21-12-2011, 09:51 PM.

Since I don't have a special Christmas dinner (apart from beans on toast) I don't do anything special afterwards either! If its fine, I'll walk the dogs in the woods or maybe I'll do that before I eat. This is the same routine as any other day of the year actually!! I'll go to my brother's house late afternoon for a couple of hours, then back to the peace and quiet of my own home, open a bottle and read a book or summat. I'll be glad when its all over - its all so hectic!!

Off to the MIL this year and all of the outlaws will be there...so after dinner will be a game of bingo at a pound per head - house takes the pot, no faffing with lines or anything then probably a game of 'who wants to be a millionaire?' with adults divided into male/female and the younger kids forming 3 teams. Will be very noisy and livelyKirsty b xx

Perhaps we could have a gathering on here for those not visiting or being visited; who just want a quiet time with a little chat? We'll delete the thread at the end of the day so it's just 'ours'.

We always play a board game - last year it was "book chase", the year before, "Trivial Pursuit" and this year its "Pictionary" (although my 8 year old *might* have Buckaroo that I picked up in a charity shop...)
Regarding washing up - I would love someone to help throughout the day with it, as I tend to do 3-4 loads as I go, or I cant prepare anything (only have a small kitchen and OH refuses to buy a dishwasher!)
