Yep! One of the worst for quite a few years. I've had a bit of a walk round our fields crouched against the hedges. Enjoying the weather from inside now until it's time to feed animals again.

Great day so far - kids had been so well-prepared to expect 'austerity Christmas' that they're all over the moon with what we did get them

Jez is in the kitchen making the dinner no turkey this year (too expensive and too much waste), we're having a lovely organic, locally free-ranged chicken instead. Only potatoes, parsnips and cabbage fresh off the plot, green beans from the freezer, and carrots from the farm shop.

I seem to have 2 anonymous gifts this year - one from 'official' Secret Santa, and one from '*not* Secret Santa'! Thank you very much to both of you, whomever you may be! (I do love a mystery ) Also had some really well thought out stuff from my kids - eldest and youngest clubbed together to buy me an out-of-print Diana Wynne Jones book, which is autographed! I'm absolutely over-the-moon with it And middle-child supplied the chocolate, and a fabulous tall, thin mug, my favourite type, that keeps the brew hot longer. Am a happy mummy, me.

Just eaten my festive lunch - beans on toast with a pinch of dry ginger powder, and an extra knob of butter! Off to see my mother and brother and his horde now. See you later!

They look nice! Our austerity Christmas consists of a wrap free zone, no turkey (for other reasons this year, but has saved £50) and one big present each, instead of lots of small/middling tat, for the kids. I got a signed Carol Klein book, which I have yet to delve into and so far the alternative Christmas day is working to my advantage. We have time for ourselves for once and it does feel like a holiday...lush!

                  Evening Gang!!

I've had a lovely Christmas Day so far.

MrPB and I got up at 6.30 to open prezzies (we're big kids at heart), and got lots of wonderful gifts, including my Secret Santa, which was a pretty basket filled with traffic light chilli jam , 2 sachets of hot choccie , 2 stirring spoons of choccie (to stir into my hot choccie) ...and...some cheese...

I wish I'd known (but nevermind SS, it was a lovely idea xxx)

                  Happy Christmas everyone xxx

                    Evening all!

Only got in at about half past midnight this morning... slept in a bit longer to get rid of the red wine from last night!!

My secret santa present was amazing! An entire box of curry powders, spices and herbs; and a chew and treats for the doggies!! I am already planning curries for next week!!!

We had a fabulous dinner - Mr OWG said the beef wellington was divine! We didn't manage any pudding, so have saved it for tomorrow.

We're off to our friends for a couple of hours tonight, should be nice and relaxed!

Well, I'm pooped....Dinner took 3 hours ot make, half an hour to demolish, I had to come back home to make labels for thehedgerow vodka because number 3 brother was going to come round tomorrow but decided to come round today instead so have to sort all the hamper stuff out....
Have just made two jars of fruits in liquer out of 3 various other fruits in liquer jars, and am now going back with the vodka, my stomach is empty enough for sherry trifle, so it's been a goodie
hope you all had a good one too

                                I know sweetie. You too.

And on that note: I think we will revert to the usual Chit Chat thread.

Nite all, hope everyone had a lovely day. Thanks to Mr Z and his extreme garden planning, I'm still pooped from yesterday so I'm off for an early night.
