As a non believer I have to be careful what I say as I know there are many believers who are actually very good people in fact the majority I would think.

However it has to be said that from Christian Crusaders to Islamic fundimentalists there are those who use religion for their own nasty purpose's and don't give a damn for anyone in the way.
