Bedtime!!!
Hi there,
I have a girl of 7 and a boy of 5 and my little boy did all the same things yours is!! Sobbing, screaming, being sick. Like everyone else has said you have to stay firm. We have always had a bedtime routine. 5 minutes before it's bedtime I'll tell them nearly time for bed, get them a drink of warm milk so they know when it's all gone it's time to go upstairs. Clean teeth, into pyjamas, keeping it all low key and fairly quiet. They take it in turns to pick a story and we all sit on the bed have a story together. After that it's the 'wee' time then into bed, they always give each other a hug and say goodnight then it's into their own beds. They have a small night light each and they also both have a tape machine so they listen to a story as they fall asleep. My son has had the same tape of 'Old Bear' for years and he loves it. They get a kiss and a cuddle goodnight then we go downstairs and hey presto they nod off pretty quickly. My son, when he was 2 went through a terrible stage of crying at bedtime and like you, by the time you get them settled it's your bedtime! If you do need to go up, then each time you go make sure you make them wait a little longer, reassure them, tell them it's bedtime and no eye contact or any other chit chat. It takes a while to break their habit but stick with it and before you know it (honestly!
). They'll be in a routine that works well. They really push you to your limits thought!! As for the morning, try putting a little box at the bottom of the cot/bed after he has gone to sleep with a couple toy's/books etc in. It may amuse him for a little while in the morning and give you a little extra time. My friend did this and it worked really well. Good luck and remember all these little phases are relatively short and sanity will shortly return!! Best wishes
