It sounds like an ideal solution in theory, but schools can't afford to do lots of CRBs. In addition, you'd have to pay someone to supervise and/or train these youngsters with no experience ... again, not in the budget, sadly.

Our school takes quite a few college students for the work experience part of their course: the smart ones tend to pick it up and use initiative, but most of them just sit there waiting to be told what to do: no use or help at all in a busy classroom with lots of disruptions. I think reality tends to put most of them off any idea of being a teacher, lol.

There's also the major problem (although I think the Cons want to change this) that you simply are not permitted to do volunteer work if you are claiming Jobseekers Allowance (or whatever it's called this week). Crazy, but they expect claimants to spend their day by the phone waiting for "that" call...

it's a shame,it makes a lot of young peeps think, why should i bother, and so it will continue,so different from a few years back, all the stupid rules laid down about benefits these day,is no encouragement at all,to any age group,

Well I spent a lovely morning with two groups of 6 eight year old boys - one hour in each class.
They were such fun! They made me laugh out loud and all of them were keen to do their best.

Their teachers were only too happy to have a bit of extra help for them, as they all deserve it!

Walking home my head was buzzing with ideas of things to make to take into class next week, to help them along with their writing!

And the boys themselves asked me if I could come back soon I think I am going to enjoy this hugely!

In terms of CRB checks I already have one less than 3 years old for work with children, it is now just a matter of top up paperwork that the school is happy to send in .

I think the teachers are the ones that deserve this - the children clearly adore them and they made the lesson such a lovely place to be And one of them has only been teaching a term .
