Don't know why but life feels normal when I log on in the morning and see Pipkins as the last poster on the Just for Fun thread. Maybe I just need therapy. .
Aberdeen is seriously a lovely place to live. If only we could have the same weather they have in Tenerife
It is. And it isn't. We loved the scenery, the space, the huge skies and that indescribable light you only get in the far north. My father is from Sutherland and I spent many a happy Summer there and we thought Aberdeen would be the same. Sadly, and I do understand why, English accents don't go down well in Aberdeen. I spent my teen years in Glasgow and never once got picked on for my accent like we did in Aberdeen. It was a shame to leave such a beautiful place, but we felt we had to go.
I'm so sorry you had that experience. Aberdeen really is a cosmopolitan place these days and I hope the way you were treated is now something consigned to history.
I think we've managed to take away the good memories, rather than the bad. Those clear-day climbs of Bennachie when you felt absolutely on top of the world, the hot-soup picnics in the snow (when the police drove past you obviously wondering if they should stop and take you back to the home now.....) The self-explanatory joys of the Whisky Trail. Getting lost in the Forestry Commission at Caskieben no matter how many times we walked there (Look Mummy! Poo! - No, Jamie, that's a wet pine cone...)
Yeah, I think we brought the good things away with us. Still miss Gordon & MacPhail in Elgin, and the Whisky Shop in Dufftown, and driving through Craigellachie with the car windows down inhaling deeply...

What a lovely post Jules. It sounds like you were really happy there. I've never been to Aberdeen, but you really painted a lovely picture for me, thank you.
Wot Flo said ^^^^^ Except I have been to Aberdeen only as a short term visitor but really liked the place & the people,I fondly remember the general architecture, the park & the Prince of Wales pub (CAMRA pub built like a tardis).

I have just given it a real pruning before it comes into leaf in the hope of getting some regeneration and the tree not having to work as hard getting water and nutrients higher up. If this doesn't work I'll replace it next year with something else.
