How about a "What I did today" board? This could then have threads managed by year or month or whatever was considered appropriate or simply a collection of individual "what I did today" posts. No need for stickies and nothing is lost among other posts.

It is a diary of what we did today not last year.
If that is the intent, why does it matter if we lose yesterdays, or last weeks, or last years posts? If it is only what we did today, our yesterdays can be thown away and the thread replenished each day so the thread will always be small and easily digestable.

I think broken down it could be a great resource for what we did this time last year, the year before etc which IMO is a good argument for breaking the thread up or coming up with a workable alternative.

I concur, maybe if we started a new thead each month with day month year then we could cheak back on previous years, using the search that way no need for stickys, just first person to post each new month would start a new one.

If it were not on a sticky it would be lost into the depths of the forum and hence very rarely used or looked at again. Monthly threads would make searching only more fraught as the very nature of splitting it thus would just fragment a quality thread into rather meaningless chunks. The what I did today thread is very successful and to be honest the only one devoid of pap and froth. Its constantly at or near the top of the board for the number of posts which proves its popularity..

As said before it is a current diary and not intended as a historical reference.

great, love it just the way it is.

I've read this thread with great interest, and it seems to be culminating in teddies being thrown out of prams. Why?

'What I Did Today' is a fabulous thread. And if it ain't broke. Don't Fix It.....

It really does do what it says on the tin, and I can't honestly see why it needs to be changed in any shape or form.

The very fact that completely 'anyone' can access that thread to write up about the day that they are so proud of, and have enjoyed so much, however little they have achieved in their own eyes, is an absolute pleasure to read. And surely, it's inspirational to newbies to read just how 'dead excited' someone is today because their first broad bean flowered, or their cat sat on and squashed their only banana shallot seedling, so now they're completely gutted and are going to get a dog instead.....

Teddies back in the pram kids?
                It's a great thread.
It's probably our best, if truth be known....

I think if we have been away for a day or two L.J. would let us tell all about it.?
