Splitting what I did today.

I notice the "what I did today" thread is well over 1500 posts.
This must be a bit daunting for newcomers.
Would it be worth splitting it into years/
"2006 What I did today" and "2007 What I did today"
Looking ahead to next year and beyond this split might make it easier to look for specific posts?

What do other grapes think?

Like many hardy perenniels this luxuriant and tightly packed herbaceous plant could benefit from being dug up and divided to give us two or more sturdy new plants to decorate the long border.

I'd agree, Peter - the 'wot I did' thread is one of the first I go to, but in order to compare and contrast to how things were shaping up last year, the split would be good - obviously you'd have to make sure that the 2006 thread was closed to posting.

I fear that to split it up you would need to lock the old sections and put them on the board as a "sticky" so it stayed at the top otherwise within 24 hours it would be lost down the page into the forum ether where nobody would find it or know that it was there.

The problem with stickies is that they just clutter up the joint and you get to a point where they dominate the top half of the board and have to page down to find new threads.

It is a usefull tool so that others, begginers and experienced alike can see what other people are doing in real time, see if they have forgotten to do something, get ideas that are relavent now. The posts from last year have no real relevance to this, for example I am planting 2-3 weeks earlier this year than last and am also having to water when I didnt start doing that till May last year.

Consider it to be a "current gardening affairs" diary rather than historical reference.

Peter also said in his original post that the number of posts might be daunting for new comers...given your comments above, is there a not a case for closing the thread - say - at the end of each year...last year can be consigned to historical ref so that sad statos like me can go delving into it and say things like ....'hmm I planted 2 weeks earlier last year than this....' and it would keep the 'current year' thread to a less MASSIVE size?

Just a thought - doesn't bother me either way, but I would hate new comers to be put off reading such a useful thread.

As someone who's been here less about a month I never found it off-putting or confusing. It's easy to go to the last page. It certainly reminds me what I ought to be doing!
