I find it all very sad that children do not have the freedom which we enjoyed. This is not intended to be a challenge to the younger forum members to argue for or against what I have said. It is merely a statement of fact - of how I grew up - and I would not swap that for one moment for the chance to be a child these days.
Mine used to shoot each other and their mates in the woods here...kids can still do that stuff!

Just because people didn't see it as wrong, doesn't mean it wasn't wrong though eh?

I do agree that kids seemed to have more freedom though, and it's something my OH and I have 'discussions' about all the time, because he'd rather have the kids where he can see them all the time, while I'm quite happy for them to be out and about. They have mobile phones now, so I can't see the problem...

When I was young we were eating food that would disgust most people today, bread & dripping sarney with loads of salt was one of my favourite snacks. No one had a lot of money so Sat tea was 'chicklings' then it was fish & chips in lard of course, plus loads of fry ups etc.

But with no tele. no games consoles, no internet it was footy, cowboys and indians, cops and robbers, all games where we got loads of exercise. There was no school run I had a 2 mile walk to my secondary school and if you were late you ran, after all it was the strap if you were late. School sports were still complusory and competitive so we burnt of the fat. There were fat people, even obese people of course but far far fewer than today.

What seems to be happening is the children are getting overweight earlier, they then take less and less exercise and so the problem becomes worse with age.

Mine are quite skinny. Still think Hilary might be onto something...

My Dad loved Chicklings - I've never eaten them actually - and won't now as its many years since I've eaten meat.
I've just deleted a paragraph about my childhood, because it would not sit well with current thinking and, as I said earlier, I'm not here to court controversy, just tell it as it was. I think I'll go to bed now!!

Good night VC I am off my self after this post.

Sarz, Cowboys and Indians wasn't like that in those days we knew nothing about the real old west we were 10 year olds bought up on Roy Rogers and the like. They were about as real to us as Ming the Emperor. We also played war games were the 'Jerries' always lost and the Brits always won.

And if you really want to know then yes they were great games because of our innocence. To us doing something bad was lighting a candle in an old air raid shelter not kicking teachers and mugging old ladies.

Anyway work tomorrow so will say goodnight everyone and remember Wake up in the morning.

I had it early in my life so I'm less fearful of it than most I suppose. It was a cancer that is usually caused by excessive smoking & drinking (Sigmund Freud died from it). I did neither, I was just unlucky. Cancer is indeed an equal opportunities disease, but you can (and I think should) do everything you can to improve your chances against it. If you're fit, strong and healthy generally, you're more likely to survive a bout of it.

Me too, for years and years and years. So much pain, leaking, flooding, etc (sorry boys, tmi).
I accidentally stumbled on some research about the chemicals (dioxins etc) in sanitary products, which actually cause the problems I was having.

I was sceptical, but desperate, so I got one of these and now I'm evangelical about them. Whereas I used to get terrible pain from my belly to my thighs, now ... nothing. Not even slight cramping. The flow lessened too. I highly recommend them, brilliant things (they save you a fortune ladies, and they cut down on landfill too).

There's these too, but they are expensive compared to your bog standard brands.

Those the same things as mooncups? My wife has used one before - and much preferred it.

It's the same as nappies too (disposable ones). The amount of crap in them in shocking.. if we use disposable ones (which we do at night time, as the cloth ones leak due to the duration of it being worn) we try and use the eco brand ones. Whole other subject though

They are already gone TS to the RSPCA for their stall. I told my neighbour and she donated all hers too.

SLS is also used in certain soaps, facial cleansers, shampoo. It has been linked to asthma which my daughter showed slight signs of when younger. When I looked into this many years ago, I swapped out the toothpaste and shampoo. She hasn't had asthma since. Coincidence?!

For the record Chicklings are not young chickens - its the vernacular name for the small intestine of a pig - otherwise known as Chitterlings. If you eat sausages you've probably eaten it already.
