Have you looked into different diets? I've a lot of success stories for ADHD (not that he's definitely got it) by following a Paleo based diet. No grains/dairy/processed food. Just simple meat/fowl/game/fish/nuts/seeds/fruit/veg, as organic and natural as possible (shouldn't be too hard here )

The theory is the ratio of omega3 to omega6 fats in our brain, originally (10's of thousands of years ago) we had a 3-6 ratio of 1:1 to 1:2, now it's estimated to be about 1:20, purely down to a modern diet of man-made 'ingredients' that are sneaked into our food. Our brains are balanced at 50/50, or at least they're meant to be, studies have shown that if this gets out of whack, it's not good on mood and behaviour (also linked to depression).

If it's something you'd like to try, I can try to dig up some links for you, or you can just google 'paleo adhd' etc. Home - PubMed - NCBI is a medical studies site where you can read medical extracts for free, a quick search for 'omega 3 adhd' brought up Omega-3 fatty acid supple... [J Am Acad Child Adolesc Psychiatry. 2011] - PubMed - NCBI

Ten trials involving 699 children were included in this meta-analysis. Omega-3 fatty acid supplementation demonstrated a small but significant effect in improving ADHD symptoms. Eicosapentaenoic acid dose within supplements was significantly correlated with supplement efficacy. No evidence of publication bias or heterogeneity between trials was found.
That was by 'just' adding omega3, not also eliminating the frankenfoods that seem to be everywhere (especially in drinks and sauces!)

I hope you find something that helps

Chris, do you know, I was only thinking yesterday how mine haven't been geeting their 'old' portions of oily fish....I really think it's a vital ingredient and definately notice when Ash is low...his concentration goes completely....must say though, I'd be reluctant to cut out grains...but always have brown rice and wholemeal pasta.

Mine had omega oils throughout primary until they became regular fish eaters. Their excellent behaviour/polite manner is still and always has been pointed out on their school reports. They eat pilchard salads without complaint. But then lines were drawn in their sand too. It's worth looking at omega oils.
Having said that, Mr VVG's nephew is ADHD and the reason lies elsewhere IMO. He behaves around us. But not at home or school.

                  Right in plain and simple terms here was my day;

5am - Mr D inadvertantly woke me up so I decided to get an earlier and head start on the day (yeah right like THAT made any difference as you will see below! ) and had a bath etc

6:30 - started to rouse kids

7am - all ok so far breakfast etc

8:30am Bluebelle picked up - we drove to school cos BB decided to run around rather than get dressed. Kept calm and dropped him off without further incident.

10am Got phone call from school asking me to go down as he was having to be restrained. Put girls in car, drive 5 mins, park, lock girls into car and go in to see whats wrong.

He had been biting some of the kids feet (through shoes) for some reason, then didnt like being manouvered out from under the table and threw a hissy fit. I could hear him screaming from the playground. He calmed down a little whilst I was there and the head said I could go after about 1/2 hour of trying to talk to him and him not responding.

11am Got in, made coffee, checked in here, attempted washing up

11:30am Babysitter (for whilst I went docs) arrived just as phone rang to say he had kicked off again

11:40am Arrived at school to find that he was creating chaos in classroom, all the kids had been evacuated for their safety in case he became agressive towards them. Took him straight out and off to Docs

11:50 Arrived at docs and had to wait 3/4 hour to be seen

12:35 Finaly called to see doctor. She asked all the questions, took notes and checked his heart etc. Said she would refer him. I asked if she was not doing any other physical tests for example his hearing had been suggested along with diabetes (no - as I thought) and thyroid (which she agreed with) so she said she would do some blood tests and THEN refer him. I then said I didnt really want to delay the referal for some blood tests but she said they must be done before they would accept him????

12:55 - Home - tried to ring school to report back and ask if I was to bring him back to school or if he was excluded again - phone just ringing. Girls were already overdue to go up for nap but just had to jolly them along as had no idea if I had to go out again or not.

13:25 - Finaly got through and was told he could go as long as he was going to be good - christ if I could guarantee that!!!!..... Decided to ring and ask neighbour if she could sit girls whilst I tried to settle him. She agreed so I put girls up for their sleep and left for the school - again!

13:40 - Went into library with head to ensure BB knew how he was being expected to behave. It finaly seemed to sink in, he lost the angry frown and he went back to his class with a smile on his face.

14:00 - Finaly got home and then spent half an hour answering concerned "how did it go" phone calls from Mr D and various rellies.

14:40 - Finaly got to eat some lunch

14:50 - Spent 10 minutes fighting to get girls coats on (they really didnt want to wake up and I gave up in the end) and got to school just on time.

15:05 - He came out and had an excellant afternoon (well hour or so anyhow) by all accounts.

15:15 - Collected daughter - finaly got home to start tea etc at 15:30

Phew so there was my day and (sorry to be a poet) now I'm grey!
Ask for blood results and parameters. Are they checking hormones as six is a testerone kick in age? Get a referral to an endocrinologist if anything hormonal/adrenal shows up! First rung of the ladder - well done. Is poor behaviour always concentrated in the morning? You should diarise this although I know you're probably shattered and have a million and one things you could do instead? Does he ever cover his ears at loud noise? Does he make eye contact? Just a thought!

He was so brave for the blood test this morning bless him! We were offered the cream but to come back in an hour - oh no I thought - I so cant face all that. He said he didnt mind not having the cream but she said she was worried about giving him a bad experience so offered him the spray. He was so brave bless him and said he hardly felt a thing.

On the whole he had a good morning, in fact it was Bluebelle who played me up - she was acting like a teenager and so for the first time EVER!!! I made her sit on the naughty stool lol! I think it was probally good for BB to see her there - at least he will see its naughtiness not who you are that results in having to sit there

I do think he probably feels very alone being in a house full of females Tammy. He does need to see that the girls get told off too. By the way, you just wait till Bluebelle is actually a teenager - been there, done that. Girls are worse than boys at that age.
