Calling in on some allotment pals for a morning coffee their youngest daughter (4 years) asked me if I wanted to play Young Monopoly that evidently Santa had (unwisely) brought her at Christmas. I expressed some reservations as morning coffee only usually lasts about 6 hours but was assured K’s concentration span was about 5 minutes so it would be OK....
I was given a plastic old banger of a car as a token (Reg BBB3B, private joke) but no money… Under K’s rules she was both a Player and the Banker so started with all the money, all the houses, all the hotels… everything! Another difference was that when I rolled the dice I had to count the moves and pay the forfeits etc (but had no money to buy anything so was rapidly heading for trouble if not jail) whereas whatever number K rolled it allowed her to move wherever she wanted to go on the board and collect more money....
Thankfully after about 3 minutes she got a bit bored with owning everything and went off to play a different game but I think the signs are there that she’ll make a good Banker in the future….
