Forgive me being pedantic, but we didn't "evolve" with sugar. When Darius, King of Persia, invaded India in 510 BC, he discovered the "reed that makes honey without bees" and took the idea home. Cane cultivation gradually spread around the Arab world, but it was the returning Crusaders who brought the sugar trade to Europe in the 11th century, and it remained a luxury item until the 19th century, when the heavy tax on sugar was abolished, and also sugar beet began to be used in Europe.

So processed sugar cane/beet has only been affordable as a regular dietary food for the ordinary citizen for less than 250 years, maybe six generations, not really very much time to do any evolving at all.

When I say sugar I really just mean simple carbohydrate, not actual sugar cane. Interesting stuff though

BUT - fat is an essential nutrient, sugar is not

BUT - fat in moderation, and of the healthy kind, not the saturated sort. Fat is another thing slipped into all kinds of processed foods to add mouth feel and flavour: instant noodles are one of the worst.

But if I delete or correct my post I'll make others look like idiots - and I'm sure they're not! Since I'm used to being made fun of, I'll let sleeping geese lie. Let those that come after me chew the fat about my sanity.

No - wherever possible I don't eat sugar - but I do eat fat and appear to be losing weight whilst doing so ...bonus

                                NO NO No.

Boil for 10 minutes, drain, put into a tray with hot vegetable oil (rape seed is cheap and works well) and roast in oven fro about 80 mins.

Lovely and crisp outside but not hard and leathery - and far fewer calories. And if you lightly salt the water in which you boil them - gorgeous...

                                Goose fat is for geese...
