  • Got a new plot

    Hi all
I've been very busy moving to another site
it's unbelievable how much stuff you accumulate on your plot .
I've spent the last few weeks moving stuff across town
and now I have a plot within waking distance

It's about 350m2 (old plot about 60m2)half of the plot is covered by three huge beech trees
I'm not sure if I can grow anything under the trees ?

It also has a lot of water running through the plot
I've been digging drainage ditches around the plot which seems to
    be working .

I can't believe how much rubbish is buried on the site
I'm on the third big wheelie full of scrap metal and
why would someone dig a hole fill it up with hundreds of polystyrene egg boxes ??
I'm also getting a film of oil on the puddles ?
I will be digging up the remains sectional garage next week !!
if the ground is not frozen solid .

I don't mind tidying up other people rubbish from the site But it's
getting beyond a joke now , if this amount of rubbish was dumped on the roadside the councils
environmental department would be around like a shot with their clip boards and cameras
    seeking a prosecution ...

I can't do much today too cold but at least
the plot looks nice covered in snow ...

Good luck clearing the plot green thing. It is surprising what you find under all the weeds and brambles. I came across a pit filled with plastic bags. Hundreds of the damn things.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

I could do with a load of bricks for the raised beds
but not that lucky I'm just digging up junk !!

I hate to ask what was in the bags ?

A hole full of polystyrene egg boxes sounds to me like a heat sink for a ground source heat pump, like what you can make for your greenhouse. Don't think egg boxes would work too well though.
There's no point reading history if you don't use the lessons it teaches.

If they were carrier bags, hang on to them, You'll soon have to pay for them as we do in Wales. Just imagine, a stash of carrier bags, such forethought!

the mind boggles ?? I was think about using all the glass I've found to build a heat sink seen
it on TV a few years ago (Dick strawbridge Eco engineer)

He used crushed glass in blue barrels with a 12v solar powered fan to pump warm air to the bottom of the barrels full of crushed glass ?

do you think time team would be interested .
also found a 1930s art deco fire place ..

Are you going to do a before/during/after diary of your new plot Green Thing?

I do envy you all your lotties. We'd love one, but there's no way we could manage it between the BH and myself. Friends of ours have just bought a plot of land joining their garden and they are busy planning and constructing the most fabulous walled garden. Jealous? Moi? Too right.

I have most of the last few months clearing the garden of the new house we have moved into. The stuff we found was strange but on the bright side where we have cleared the jungle now loads of bulbs are coming up
