Gordon Riggs has a huge nursery Todmorden way and they are cheaper there still because this is their main base of operations. I prefer this one to the other one because there is so much more under the polytunnels and greenhouses. First year on the allotment my toms took ages to germinate and I went to Riggs and got a small pot of tom seedlings for under a £1 and they filled my greenhouse!
        Best wishes

Lucky you. In 'The Smoke' we only have the usual rip off merchants; poor quality plants at sky high prices. Call me mean or what, I always grow from seed, takes a tad longer but I am happy in the knowledge that I have not been ripped off.

Know what you mean... that's if you can find the fruit or veg seedlings in the first place!

People talk of London being a fantastic place, but not when you're a gardener after a bargain (I think anyway)

The best place I've found locally is the Gardening Club in Crews Hill, but that can sometime be hit and miss

Interesting to see Walsden cropping up in this Blog.
I live in Walsden , just next to Gordon Riggs Garden Centre actually. I have registered with Calderdale Council on the waiting list access one of the few available allotment plots in Todmorden (I am no 90 in the list apparently !!). I am not hopeful that this will materialise within my lifespan. I have been looking for any privately run allotments in the area - any advice welcome.

Surely with 90 or more on the list it's time to go to your council and demand that they increase the allotment provision.

Ps me and the wife love a trip over to Tod to go to Gordon Rigg's. It's not far from Darwen.

OOOOOHHHH Right, (rolling up sleves and spitting on hands)
Not so bad lad get your bum over here and tell me again that Walsden is in Lancashire!

Walsden is a village in Todmorden, Todmorden is the border town for west yorkshire, you will have past the signs that say welcome to west yorkshire.
The war still hasnt offically ended you know.

they have another small nursery in Rochdale which is in Lancashire but thats it.

I absolutley love riggys, spend a fortune every time though.
