  • boys shoes help needed please!

My 9 year old has boney feet that are hard to get good shoes for. We walk everywhere so need good waterproof shoes.
We used to get them from Clarks, but this year they say they cant get the shoes/boots to fit well enough to sell us a pair.

Can anyone come up with any ideas where we can go to get good quality shoes and boots that are well fitted for a boy please. We dont have a huge budget, pretty skint really but he does need some good shoes as we walk in all weathers everyday!

    Thankyou!

Clarks would have been my first port of call as well. Miendl make brilliant walking shoes and they do do them in childrens sizes too. However they are a bit pricy (but they wear well) and may not be suitable for school wear (depends what the school rules are.

Just google Miendl shoes for children and take a look at their range. I can't reccomend them highly enough. They are the most comfortable shoes I have ever worn and I wouldn't be without at least one pair.
It is the doom of man, that they forget.

Can't get them to fit well?

Did they try going up a half size and down a width? There in theory should be a roll of give over the top when you move your thumb across, and there is adequate length in the front for 8-10 weeks, usually near the seam.

Whadya mean bony, big toe joint? Shouldn't be able to feel that if the width fits. When tugged gently from the heel, shoe shouldn't come off. Should also sit without gapes on instep and not crease if of appropriate depth.

Dependent on shoe size, there's the adult goretex ones. Pricey, and not designed for kids. Perhaps you could buck a trend and get some Doc'ers.

        Have you tried M&S?

'Kickers' lace up boot/shoes are great, maybe worth a try??

Otherwise cheap shoes & replace them every 6 weeks or so, same price overall I guess and you can keep an eye on his feet growing.

Startrite sell narrow fittings, but I had this with my daughter. Ricosta German shoes if you can find them are perfect!

I'd echo HH on trying Docs. Not the cheapest but very tough and because they 'fit' round the ankle/calf more than on the foot, they're comfier to wear. Our lad (12) gets on very well with his.

My youngest daughter has low ankle bones and couldn't have Clarkes as they rubbed, so she had Startrites instead (the shop I bought them from stocked both Clarkes and Startrite). They are expensive though. Later on both daughters went onto M&S shoes.

Mine had 'Kickers' last time...or at least I think they were?. Both got on really well with them and they lasted until they grew out of them. Got them from Brantanos, so not hideously expensive.

I've noticed that French and Italian shoes/boots tend to be more slimline. Anything in the sales perhaps????

My youngest has long narrow feet. We bought him Ecco shoes (for school) from TKMaxx. He now has size 13 (adult) feet and he's not yet 15.

My eldest has his Dad's skinny feet and for the last 6 years of school has the same pair of Startrite shoes. The older children's shoes are branded as Rhino. Dearer than Clarks but the leather is so much better quality. Depending on foot growth we sometimes got a year out of them.

sorted! Thanks so much for all you help! In the end we went to a camping shop near us, Go Outdoors at pudsey. We got him a pair of waterproof hiking boots that fit really well, for.......£14.99! Result.
Down side he has to learn to ties laces! Damn the velcro age! The words "when I was young we didnt have velcro!" dont help!!
