Me and VVG were talking about this today so I said I'd send a link, but hey, some others might like it as well so I thought I'd post it here.

I think I'd want to build a prototype just to confirm the wood does really burn sideways. I can't see how it doesn't burn vertically. very interesting though

Fascinating I reckon Snadger will be collecting the materials to build one as we speak!

The idea certainly looks good and yes AP with the right amount of air the flames will be drawn into the flueway.

One thing they don't mention though is where is all that air coming from, somewhere there has to big a large vent to outside and that will give a chilling factor in the room you are trying to heat.

We're going to build one at one of my colleges; I already have the bricks [once they have been taken out of the fire pit we built last week], and got the estates guy prepped - he will be sourcing the ducting and some other materials.

Wouldn't mind giving it a go myself as a greenhouse heater. I think a few modifications may be required though.
Possibly the use of a thicker walled heat receptacle i.e. a propane gas bottle as opposed to an oil drum which i would imagine distorting and not lasting very long?
A deeper feed tube would also be beneficial so that less loading would be required?

I might just wait and see how yours turns out first tho Zaz as I've got quite a lot on my plate at the mo.

Apparently the old Russian peasants' traditional ceramic stoves, that the whole family slept on in one enormous bed, were based on the same idea, but not so efficiently made because they liked the bed too much to modify !

Mr Frosty and I were looking at Rocket Stoves yesterday on Dick Strawbridge's website. Seriously tempted. This Rocket Stove is more for sitting out the back and cooking some nosh.
