      • Wondered where everyone has been - even the wood has gone quiet.

VC I've always wanted to go to Flat Holm island - I used to be able to see it (and the lighthouse lights flashing from it and Steep Holm island) from my window when I lived in Risca. Was on the point of going once but like for you the weather turned nasty and the trip got cancelled.

The weather has been horrendous here today with lashing rain and wind - I went to my local spinning guild (saves putting on the heating!) and had a natter and spun a bobbin of Shetland wool while I was there. Glad I'd decided to pop up the lottie yesterday afternoon (did 3 hours actually) and planted out some beetroot and sowed spinach and French Beans. They've probably floated away by now!
Nearly there now LD - hope all goes well for you. Have an early night tonight and get a good night's sleep if you can. x

        • Hi LL. I've been going to Flat Holm for about 15 years now. You must come over one day - and I'll give you a personal tour! Flat Holm Island I'm not sorry its been cancelled as it was a work day - which usually means path clearing, scrub decimation or ragwort pulling - or my absolute favourite, beach combing for driftwood and rubbish. I don't do painting or indoor jobs - just the things I enjoy! There was to have been a BBQ in the evening too - would have been very soggy!!

Sounds good VC - I'd love to come over with you one day. Let me know when you intend going again and I'll see if I can make it. Are you part of the volunteering team? That sounds fun too - and you get to meet new like-minded people as well.

              • I'm a member of the Flat Holm Society so we can go over free whenever there's as empty seat on the boat as long as we're prepared to do a bit of work. I do Guided tours (what a laugh). Never thought I'd have the confidence to talk to a group of strangers for a couple of hours, but I was pushed into it and now I don't give it a second thought. I haven't been out this year yet but anytime you want to go I'll work my passage!

                  • Why not, BigM? You could visit Flat Holm with Lady Lottie and I. That will justify my place on the boat, twice over!

Yes, come on down BM, it would be fun, you know you want to. Perhaps you could get a little group of us grapes together for the trip VC - I'm sure we'd all be prepared to help.

                            • This sounds like a great idea, VC. I can't do Sundays and on some Saturdays I'm leading walks for our Ramblers Group, but otherwise flexible. If BM and others were to come down to Wales then it wouldn't really matter which day we went on would it (ie it could be a weekday). Best start making a list of names I think, VC. Count me in for one.
