Pilgrims Update! Only 4 Pilgrims, 2 male, 2 female and 2 minders. One female declined the boat ride and some of the local boatmen advised the pilgrims not to go because of the sea conditions - but they went anyway. About 20 of us gathered, including the Lady Vicar who said the pilgrim's prayer and gave them all cockle shells from the beach to wear on their robes (that looked like microfibre fleece!). We sang the Pilgrim's hymn and it was all quite jolly. Then they launched the 2 rowing boats (the coracles are meeting them at Laugharne). The plan is to row out to sea for an hour or so on the outgoing tide, wait on the sandbar for an hour or two while the tide turns, and row another hour up the next river estuary to Laugharne. Its quite windy and choppy today and the locals felt that an hour or so on the sandbar, for inadequately dressed pilgrims, was not a good idea as it is very exposed out there. The better, and more authentic option would have been to wait until low tide, when the sandbank in the middle of the estuary dries out, row to that, walk across it and row on to Llansteffan on the opposite shore. But, it had all been planned and scheduled for them to be in Laugharne today. Hope they have a safe journey. Here are a few photos

Crikey! Rather them than me and I thought that a journey in choppy waters in a coracle was the worst that could happen! They DO look inadequately clothed - and I certainly wouldn't want to wait on a sandbar for an hour or two until the tide turned. Hmm - I did think the idea was interesting, now I've changed my mind. Glad I didn't hear of all this beforehand, I might have been stupid enough to get involved!
Even so, I do hope they make it safely on to St Davids eventually.
The dog looks determined to go along with them doesn't she.
So you weren't a teeny bit tempted to join them VC?.........Forbidden Fruits make many Jams.

By deviating from the authentic route they have missed some of the special pilgrim's churches too Also, although the idea is to set up a new Walking Route across Wales "the Pilgrim's Way" it will not be possible to do it their way, by boat, so an overland route is essential. An opportunity lost.

Hi Folks, Funny old weather again! Sun's out, bucketing with rain. What else can you expect - today its Glastonferry! Yes, you read it right. Its Ferryside's own version of Glastonbury festival. The jazz band is playing in the square, there's Folk music in the pub and tonight, at the Rugby Club numerous pop groups will be singing their socks off. Even camping on the sports ground if you wish. There'll be lots of sore heads here tomorrow! I'm giving the evening a miss but I'll probably hear the music from the house anyway! Still trying to decide whether to head eastwards today or not. Decisions, decisions......
Hope you're all thriving!
