Mothers Day sellers!

This should g under school gardens really but thought more people might see it here and I know a lot of you are crafters and brimming with ideas!

Our pot is empty of petty cash in the garden group and we want to do a quick bake and plant sale for mothers day! This is on the 18th sale on 16th so not much time to sow and grow much, we have some pot plant seedlings from freecycle "mother of a 1000 pot plants" some money plants and spider plants.

We also have 6 empty baskets that a garden cemtre donated, not that big.
What would you put in them?

Also what sots of cheap easy, quick craft stuff would sell do you think? We can do a mix of garden group adults and children preparing stuff!

In other words as usual....help!!

how about lavender sachets made from circles of fabrics cut out with pinking shears then gathered up and tied with ribbon? Or could the children make cards? tubs of cress? or edible pea shoots?

Tee hee Jules I had the same discussion re cress and pea shoots at the school gate! I actually have a lot of dreid lavender so thats a really great idea too! I have loads of scrap material too and some virgin pinking shears that Im desperate to use so thats a fab idea! Thanks

Gather up twigs of similar lengths, then tie them together in bunches (after possibly soaking them in hot water for a couple of hours to soften them) into love heart shapes. Tie them up with a bit of string, then trim off the ends (or indeed leave them long!). Spray paint if you want them in a colour. Beautiful!

Cookies in a jar...Google it for lots of recipes. If you look at USA sites use a 2lb jar instead of quart jars and pack ingredients down firmly. Make hang tags with the baking instructions on and, if you like, tie a cheap (short) wooden spoon to the jar. Ask parents if they have any large jars saved from mincemeat last Christmas.

A couple of years ago I had a stall at the Spring Fayre...day before Mothers Day. I cut loads of strips of coloured paper, got kiddies to decorate them for Mothers Day and then wrap around a plastic pot that they put marigold seeds in. Sounds too simple but it was one of the most popular stalls and made quite a bit for a relatively small outlay.

Hi Donna, I saw some really pretty little tin planters yesterday. Just washed out empty tins with some twine wrapped around them and each had a doffodil in them, with moss covering the soil.

I'm definately going to make some for the kiddies to give their Grand mummies...if I have time, I might do some extras to sell at our Spring Fayre.

Not sure about being able to let kiddies help unless you have a magic tin opener that doesn't leave sharp edges.

Perhaps if adults prepared the can, and put some sort of coloured waterproof tape round the top edge, inside and out so it was safe, the children could do some of the other stuff?

Thanks for all these ideas! Its the first time weve been able to do craft related activities within the group. We did some over the summer but only a few attended> We have more adults wanting to get involved now which is fab it makes such a lot of difference to what we can do!

Doesn't it? I don't think some parents realise just how much their help is needed. Some, I admit just don't want to give it, I think there are lots of willing ones though that are blissfully unaware that an hour here and there would make such a difference.

I'm having a little panic about our Eco Club. I used to do it with the Head and her hubbie. Sadly she's leaving at the end of this term and it doesn't look like any staff are willing to take it on. I'm not in a position that I can commit to a definate day (don't know what my work hours will be) but have said I could perhaps go in one lunchtime each week.
