We used to buy little hard boiled sweets of various colours which were called ten-a-pennies; can you guess why?

mum used to send me for a loaf of bread and I could spend the change. I liked traffic lights, sherbet tubes, aniseed balls and black jacks. Wasn't allowed the bubblegum balls that turned your tongue blue....

Floral Gums! White chocolate buttons with multicoloured sugar dots on them - don't know whar they were officially called but we always called them "Titties" (I swear, I haven't a clue!!) - the same as we called the jelly type sweets in a bag of licorice allsorts.
By the way - all this licorice being consumed...we must have been very "regular" kids!!!
Jublies were very popular. Huge pyramid shaped fruit ices - no stick - you just tore off a corner of the thick waxed cardboard wrapper and sucked. - Gave you a fantastic red mouth!

Remember jubblies? That's what we used to call them. A sort of squashed pyramid frozen ice block thing. It was a mission to get it open and then we used to suck it till all the flavour and colour came out and you would be left with just ice. Your hands would be frozen by the end of it.

Mr Dimascio, who drove around in his little icecream van, sold Jubblies. Some of the kids (not me of course) would put their empty Jubblie cartons, under his tyres so that when he drove off, the cartons would explode. Mr Dimascio would get out, check his tyres and by the time he'd got back into his van, the kids would have stuck the bottom pointed part of their icecream cornets to his windscreen!
We were always pleased to see Mr Dimascio!!
