The clocks spring forward tonight - the countdown has ended
I take it that's when the sloe gin will be matured?..........

Yes, actually, it is. It's quite depressing to get to the point of going to work just as dawn is breaking, and then be plunged back into darkest night for another 2 weeks again.
Think of it this way - how long did it take you to notice the "nights drawing in" (yes, I'm Scottish!), then the "nights drawing out"? you probably didn't, because its just nature. But if you spend 5 minutes each morning and evening just enjoying your wee universe, you would see the impercetible (have I spelt that right?) creep of the additional light and the nature changing to use it (hence our seeds germinate, for instance).
So, when the clocks go forward (spring forward, fall backward....) just spend as long as you can spare watching the sky, the birds, the world, and you'll never notice the cons due to appreciating the pros.
Hope this makes sense!!!!
If the river hasn't reached the top of your step, DON'T PANIC!
6.15pm, and it's just light enough still for me to pack all my stuff away for the night (mower, tools etc)... also realised I've had the back door open since about 9am this morning for the dogs... happy days!

Before the clocks go back [to forward] and trips in the evening to the lottie start back up again.
Gotta be summat wrong with the arithmetic. Clocks change on a Saturday night/Sunday morning, and 19 days from Sunday is not Saturday, let alone Sunday!!
While I can see the appeal of light evenings, dark mornings are not something I could be happy with more of, mainly on safety grounds. The morning is when people on the way to work and children on the way to school happen at the same time, so that is when we DO NOT want it any darker than cannot be avoided. The homeward trip does not coincide.
Flowers come in too many colours to see the world in black-and-white.
