Scabies???

Any body know anything about scabies? Daughter has just been treated for it. She's a tattooist and has picked it up from a client. She has been told to wash absolutely everything at a high temperature. She noticed the rash a few days ago.

Thing is I have exzema so how can I tell if my various patches are exzema or scabies?

Have to go and pick her up from her boyfriends house now as she is walking around in his clothes and the trousers won't stay up? He's been treated for it too.

Any advice?

This is caused by a tiny mite that lives on the skin. The treatment I had was to use an acaricide wash or paint applied after bathing/showering which kills the mites. To stop re-infection clothes and bedding were hot washed after every use. The problem is then quickly eradicated. I wouldn't recommend wearing other peoples clothes as this is likely to encourage re-infection and spread of the parasite.

I've picked her up now. She couldn't put her old clothes on after having the treatment so she wore some clean ones of her boyfriends. She's been told to bin bag all her clothes and linen, tie it up and leave for 3 days as the mites need a host and won't survive. Then put everything on a hot wash.I guess I will have to do the same. The treatment takes 24 hours so she can go back to work tomorrow.

We holidayed in France - a rent a tent holiday many years ago. My eldest son developed a infestation which our Doctor thought probably stemmed from the camp bed he slept on. We had taken over our own sleeping bags etc. We were all treated as a precaution. We binned the sleeping bags and virtually all my sons clothes and boil washed the remainder. It literally makes the skin crawl

The camping site we were on was louping with mice including in the tent and under the groundsheets etc.

I'd rather have horses in me bed than mice...but not in a Godfather type way!

DK .....excema is in localised patches and scabies is generally all over . I think it usually starts between the fingers and travels up ....

DK, I have had and been treated for scabies before. It starts inbetween the fingers and toes as Bins said. I had to use`stuff that was for treating nits I cant remember what its called and everyone I was in contact with used it aswell. Not easy to tell the new boyfriend at the time but he must of understood as we have been married for nearly 9 years! If I were you I would treat myself just incase.

Bins I've had exzema all my life and does take the form of localised patches but they do move about so to speak. I do always have it on my hands though. My daughter doesn't have the scabies rash between her fingers. The rash that she has is on her forearms. As a tattooist she wears disposable gloves (like surgeons and other health workers) except they are black because of the inks. The mites would not have been able to get between her fingers. Her boyfriend has the rash on his legs. It was him that was diagnosed first but it's only because my daughter is in close physical contact with her clients for prolonged periods of time that it is thought to be how it was transmitted.

However, he was told that contamination could have happened up to 6 weeks ago and after thinking about it he reckons it could have been when he went to visit some mates and stayed over for a few nights. So who knows who contaminated who really?

When I went to the chemist they said they had been selling lots of the treatment for the last few weeks so there must be a bit of an outbreak like kids with nits at school.

Anyway hopefully it's all sorted now.

It's prioderm that's used to treat nits, but you can also use Benzyl Benzoate for scabies. Don't think that's a good idea for an eczema sufferer, though, as you shouldn't use BB on broken or irritated skin.

Hope you get it eradicated. Sounds a right palaver!
