I love cakes too- but my point is not too offend people who like cakes or sell them for charity-obviously- !! my point is -it is not the only thing women are good for -which is what the advertising has suggested- remember people are bombarded by advertising in london.- you ought to have heard what some business women were saying about the international womens day 'cup cake' poster on the train!!!they were very astute and sharp.!

No probs with complaining about that but you seemed to be complaining about cake sales in general in the second part of your post and lets face it, anybody can, and do make cakes for our work sales.

That said, I retain my right to be a modern professional woman who ALSO likes baking, sewing etc but has no interest what so ever in handbags and shoes and isn't that keen on pink

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

I was at a networking event today for WIBN (women in business, held every month, just coincidence that it was IWD) and there was cakes and biscuits and stuff and I said no thank you and they thought me quite bonkers!

... I guess they chose cupcakes because they weren't allowed to put pictures of a lapdancer/Rihanna up there *rolleyes

And you think that's maybe because you didn't want cake? xx

I reckon, whatever they'd put on the poster, someone wouldn't like it.

I guess a group of ladies sat chin wagging over coffee and cake is more universal than female lorry drivers.

If they'd used a business woman going off to work, the media would probably pick it apart for being elitist, as they did the Christmas ad for whoever it was.

two sheds: yep, could be worse!! its not just me getting fed up with the way women are perceived then? I was initially quite thrilled to hear about international women's day a month ago but astonished by the 1950's style advertising!!!! same old. This day was supposed to become quite important and I can't help but feel the advertising(which has to be seen to be believed) took us all a step back in time.? I pray that my daughter is never asked in an interview whether she will actually cope with a job as she has a young child.(as I was, many years ago but never forgotten!)

I'd like to see a poster of women drivers, pilots, electricians, plumbers etc

Surely International Women's Day is supposed to recognise women's rights, so wouldn't a poster of suffragettes have been more appropriate.
