I have a staffie cross rescue jobbie, and she is brilliant with people and children. Just hates cats and some other dogs.

Please can we have that WRIT LARGE !

When I walk our Staffie (cross) she is always being yapped & snapped at by smaller dogs, but if she retaliates it's US that get the glares

She's had poodles and Yorkies all over her, snapping & snarling, but she's never bitten anything

To bring this back to dogs and "chinchillas", I have 2 dogs too. I told the BT man that they were in the kitchen - and so was the computer. I told him to be brave and we went in. One dog rolled over on her back for her tum to be tickled and the other one fussed around looking for food. He told me that he didn't think Cavalier King Charles spaniels featured in the top 100 dogs to be avoided. Such a relief to know that!!
BUT since he also thought a chinchilla was a breed of dog I don't have that much faith in him!!

Daxies are the worst: Dog attacks study highlights dachshunds as the most aggressive breed « Dog Bite Claims

Any dog can bite, especially if it is not trained or socialised properly or encouraged to behave aggressively.
Allowing a dog to behave aggressively makes the dog think that this is appropriate behaviour. It drives me mad the number of people who:

                  a) allow their dog to bark & snap at other dogs
                  b) treat their dogs as accessories & don't permit them to socialise with other dogs

I had a rottweiler for many years until the poor lady got bone cancer and passed She was the most beautifully tempered dog, but I still got abuse hurled at me when walking down the street, just for walking! She'd never touch another dog and was always friendly. People just look at a big, scary-looking dog and think they are more dangerous than the little **** of a terrier that I have now. How wrong they are. Even now after six months of him living here, I've still not broken his attitude. Work in progress, but until it's sorted, I won't let him socialise.

Ours was like that when we first got her (rescue). I muzzled her when she was barky, then took it off when she calmed down. It only took about 3 weeks for her to get the message. Worth a try?

Definitely try a soft muzzle. Our staffie calms down instantly when it's on. Mind you she also calms down when she gets her raincoat on. Ruins her street cred

He surely couldn't have meant chihuahuas could he?

I've always had pairs of German Shepherds and they've all been gentle with those requiring it, but looked the part as guardians.
