cat litter

sorry if I have put this in the wrong section.

I have been using cat litter on my kids shoes to get rid of the bad smell.
(Saw it on telly )

I was wondering, could I then put it in a bucket and fill with water,
And then dig in to my soil, for water retention?

I am sure their will be a reason why you can't, just can't find it.

It's made of clay isn't it? So theoretically, yes it can go in soil or the compost bin.

I had to read your post a few times to understand: you're putting it inside the shoes to rid them of foot smell? Not on the soles to get rid of catsh!! smell?

Read the ingredients on the bag. As TwoSheds says, if it's clay then you can use it on the garden.

Hmm - I use wood based cat litter which I put on the compost bin (having removed all solid substances )

You may be using one based on Fuller's earth - that is the clay clumping granules one.

Yes, it absorbs smells so can be used inside shoes to do the same thing...from smelly feet. It's emptied out before the person wears the shoes again.

I always seem to find granules in my shoes though! I think the cat puts her feet in my shoes when I'm not looking!

Are they heels? If so, I'd check your lippy as well as I bet she's borrowing both to go out on the pull in!!

I'm assuming (hoping) that you're referring to unused cat litter, otherwise your kids must've really peed you off...

Oooh I just remembered - when I used (or rather my cats used) the white cat litter, which doesn't clump up that much, I used to recycle it on the plot as a slug barrier - and it really seemed to work. I'd do a drizzled wall of it round the newly planted things.
