From the news item:-
The price of a first-class stamp for a standard letter will go up from 46p to 60p on 30 April
A second-class stamp for a standard letter will go up from 36p to 50p on the same date
A first-class stamp for a large letter weighing up to 100g will rise from 75p to 90p
A large letter sent second-class will cost 69p, rather than 58p
Parcels, franked mail, recorded post, redirection services and PO Box use will also be going up in price
Wish my income would go up by the same percentage!
I work at a local Co-op convenience store and we usually sell stamps (used to have a post office too about 4 years ago when they all got closed down), but we haven't had any in for a month now and this is the reason, we can't buy them in bulk at the old price and still be selling them once the price has gone up.
That will be the death knell of Christmas cards etc. surely.
I'm not a card person myself as I'd rather spend on a better gift, email and texting will take over which is a shame for people who don't have that access.
I've just thought of a way libraries could earn some money (nominal fee) towards beating cuts...don't tell Cameron.
The whole thing is just a ploy to make more money when acutally it will probably stop people sending things even more - I know the number of letters has decreased dramatically over the past 30 odd years due to e-mail etc. Almost all our stamps are bought at Christmas as I'd never give up sending cards, whilst it is cheaper and environmentally friendlier, you can't stand hang them round the front room to make it look festive and are just not the same.
Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.
Nah, why restrict Port to just the festive season, you can even buy white port for the BBQ season - reminds me of a lovely holiday I had once in Portugal

I know why things have to go up in price but it makes me sick!! I am on maternity leave at the moment but when I was working full time I did not get a pay rise in 3 years but every item in the whole world has gone up in price!!!
Wonder if it will have any effect on the mountain of junk mail I get?
We usually have two collections of the post from work by RM and despite the cost rising, this is being reduced to one by the end of April. Must check if this is coming from the Trust or RM.
