I see this as a cunning ploy by the goverment.

    (a) It gives a great boost to the financial figures through extra tax.

    (b) If the drivers do go on strike most of the cars will have full tanks and the petrol stations will be topped, lessening the impact of the strike.

I will tank the van next week right to the bobble hole, when the bank loan comes through.

it's the same here as well,i have not got a lot left in the tank,so will need to get some over the weekend,I think the petrol stations themselves could help if they regulate what people take away in cans, but me thinks they really clapping their hands at all the extra profit,i also thought it illegal to store petrol, only a small can for the mower ext, because of explosion, especially when the weather is hot,

If & when there may be a strike, the car owners that have been morons will need to refill as the Easter strike we know is off and the tanker companies have to give 7 days notice of any strike action so that gives us 2 weeks grace.

I agree with you. They put the same statement out 3 days running didn't they? Even after widespread criticism?

A third reason was something to do with trying to get the general public up in arms about the unions

I saw that story TS - very sad and so avoidable

Have already posted in the rant thread because I stupidly thought I could go to the garage at my usual time and get my usual amount of petrol (enough for 2 trips to Cambridge and back for work placement or uni) and not be held up. 25 bladdy minutes in queue and late for uni. Not impressed. As a skint student I can't afford to panic buy anyway Our local BP garage sold out, but the OH went to a different one who says he is going to be getting deliveries and is unlikely to run out anytime soon, which is reassuring.

                    its all so bloody silly

This whole issue doesn't fill me with much optimism about humanity. When the **** hits the fan it's everyone for himself. So much for the big society.

Who is to blame ? The general public is to blame for this mess .The union have to give 7 days notice of a strike and no such notice has been given . The general public have gone into headless chicken mode . I fill my tank when I need to - as in when its almost empty .Luckily here in Northern Ireland there are only 4 drivers in the union that have threatened to strike and about 150 drivers delivering fuel so I can't see it making a big impact but there are fools panic buying and filling jerry cans at the pumps . Even if the filling stations ran out - which they won't - its only 40 miles to the South of Ireland which has cheaper fuel and no striking tanker drivers . If you haven't got fuel stay at home - your boss can't sack you for circumstances that are beyond your control .
There comes a point in your life when you realize who matters, who never did, who won't anymore and who always will. Don't worry about people from your past, there's a reason why they didn't make it in your future.
