  • So Where and why?

Wife and I were discussing this afternoon, if we came back to UK where would we go? Got me thinking what would you lot have to say as to where?

We don't like cities, I like more rural(my idea of rural is not a soul any closers than 10 miles! yup real sociable I am ) that Mrs RT does... that about covers the restrictions...

Norfolk, for walking through miles of unspoilt countryside or beaches; birdwatching; floating on the Broads; eating at good pubs: just avoid the coastal towns, they're pretty shoddy.
Southwold is usually recommended, but it's full of Londoners at the weekends, nobody else during the week, and it's expensive

My vote would be for Wales or Ireland! But then, I can't imagine moving too far from the Metropolis!

Wales without a doubt - but you wouldn't expect me to say anything else, would you?
Cardiff to London less than 2 hours by train - but I rarely bother!

Lots of open space, beautiful coast and countryside, cheapish properties with land if you head west or into the middle, quality of life, friendliness, no water shortages, and I live here!!

If I were you RT I'd stay where you are.
Why do you want to come back here?

My OH has 5 siblings in Perth. They have problems just like everybody else.

I live a stones throw over the border from Birmingham. If I won the lottery tomorrow it would be north west Pembrokeshire for me between Fishguard and St Davids and reasonably close to the coast. OH is Irish so he can jump on the ferry any time and the grown up kids would love to visit at the drop of a hat. Not a mansion but big enough for me, OH and mother (she don't like Wales though but tough), and visitors...even if they have to bring a tent. Obviously need a few acres of land too. Bliss!

                  Why?
                  Lovely people.
Lots of wildlife and important habitats.
                  Gorgeous scenery. Inland and coastal.
Neighbours can be as distant as you like.
                  Plenty of rain!
Excellent beaches for swimming and surfing.
Coastal path for walking with cosy pubs on the way.

                  What more could you want.

Hmmm...well- it depends on your reasons for returning to the UK...but.....

I know a lot of British peeps over here who can't cope with the language here often settle in Eire.
Very rural but more 'British' compared to mainland Europe if you know what I mean?

I've only toured the area once but the countryside is stunning, peeps are really friendly(you don't get the feeling you are being 'marked out of 10' ) sense of humour 10/10 and best of all local Guinness.
Lots of flights to mainland UK too.
Wonderfully calm place to live .
I'm sure you'd get a decent rural house with land at a good price too.

Oh- and correct me if I'm wrong- but doesn't the Gulf Stream keep the west coast warmer????
