I think it's more a case of not being able to imagine a couple with two boys having a daughter and vice versa.

I'm one of three girls. Eldest sis has one of each, middle sis three boys and me one of each.

I'm also one of three girls, eldest sis had one of each, middle sis lost two so don't know the sex then had a daughter, I had four boys then daughter.
Even though we wont know if it worked me and OH followed Doctor Mirriam Stoppard's advice for a girl, which is to say do it lots !!!! as boys are stronger swimmers so you need lots to make sure a girl stands a chance. We had a girl after I had, had four boys but with a different partner.
