  • Ads inbetween Vine posts,

How is it that the ads inbetween posts on the forum are from sites I have been visiting recently. I haven't been on the Vine for a little while and have been trawling sites looking for a bargain telephoto lens for my new camera and the adverts floating around are from the site I eventually bought from. Find it all a bit creepy,it's happened with stuff too. before. They're watching us!!

you need an ad-blocker to stop it. It's like facebook, privacy is non-existent on the net....

I don't get ads because I use AdBlocker on Chrome but I'm sure there are other versions that do the same job. Annoying, aren't they!!

Even if you stop the ads from showing, websites can check what you got in your cookies from visiting other websites. Clever stuff

If you want to stop it, disallow cookies in the settings of your browser. There's a european law that says that companies and local authorities should only place cookies on visitors' computers if they have explicitly allow it, which is ridiculous, when it can be disallowed in the browser settings.

          But there ya go

Which browser do you use? You can block all cookies, but set a list of exceptions sites that you DO allow cookies from... or, if you prefer to trust most sites and only block a few, use the exceptions list that way
If you let me know which browser you use, I can give ya more detailed instructions if needed. Being a geek, I have most of them installed lol

Ads are fact of life we have to live with. The ads will go some way to finacing the forum I reckon? I don't mind putting up with a few relevant ads if it allows the forum to continue!

Ads about gardening on a gardening site are fine, but ads related to what you have recently browsed is going a bit far, IMHO.

Yeah I don't mind the ads myself and on this site they always seem to be relevant, i.e. Wilkos when I've recently been on their site etc. It's reminded me a couple of times to buy what I was browsing for lol
I'm not super careful about anything online. Who cares if anyone knows what sites I visit

Google ads just save what you have typed so that they can direct relevant ads your way. Get an ad blocker - they are easily downloadable.

in the past i was always wonder how google is free and every year they get billion or trillion dollar of profit? the same for youtube and facebook... everything is free but they are rich... the answer is adverts... this advert that you see are from google and are call adchoices... here what i found on google support:

" The AdChoices icon appears on sites that use Google's AdSense program to show ads. While Google often shows you ads based on the content of the page you are viewing, we also show some ads based on the types of websites you visit, view, or where you interact with an ad or other Google product supported by Google's advertising services. In doing this, Google doesn't know your name or any other personal information about you. Google simply recognizes the number stored in your browser on the DoubleClick cookie, and shows ads related to the interest and inferred demographic categories associated with that cookie. It's our goal to make these ads as relevant and useful as possible for you"

                            i hope everything is explain

                            p.s.
after all the time i ask help for the first time i've been helpfull to a grape.. yeah
