Oak before Ash...

You know the old rhyme:
Oak before ash, in for a splash
Ash before oak, in for a soak.
The oak trees here are turning green, but the ash, apart from its flowers, has no new growth.
What's it like on your trees?

I've heard it before ....on here I think . Pretty sure it was G4 ......

I've heard that ever since a wee lass - my two oak saplings are sprouting away happily but I'm not sure where there are Ash to check them

I noticed that the oak I can see from my window seems to be greening up very early this year, bur the ash close by is also full of leaf.

I can't see the wood for the rain either.

Oak in garden and one down the lane are both in leaf. Ash less so but it's coming.

My OH wanders around at this time of year studying the oaks and ashes and driving me nuts!

So far we can't tell any difference, as some oaks are more advanced than their neighbouring ashes, and in other places the ashes are more advanced then their neighbouring oaks....

A friend of ours who has one of each in her garden, when asked by the OH which was out first, announced that they always come out at the same time.

So I am trying to persaude the OH to stick to "if the crows nest high it'll be a good summer" and leave the oaks and ashes thing along. That way I may get to enjoy a walk without constant stopping and mumbling!

Well, around here in Essex/Suffolk border-land the Oaks are leafing up nicely, and the Ashes are just thinking about it. Same as the last two or three years, so it looks like we may be in for another dry summer. No wonder house prices are so high round here!
