I see what you mean, but it's not 'people' are who are made redundant, it's jobs ~ isn't it?

      That makes sense then.

My job was made redundant and given to my 'friend'. They just gave it another name/title

Next time I shop in that Like-it-ere shop I'll be in touch. Do you understand the pictures as well?

Thought you might colour them in afterwards!
But, we digress from the topic of advising Steve on his career choice. Time to go for a walk.....

VOLANTARY redundancy is not the same as making a position permanently redundant and enforcing a contract end.

CS, which one is nearer? Which gives you more money in the same six month period? Are either of these considered trial period, with possibility of longer term employment? Six month contracts are considered norm these days on trial period basis, especially if you've come up through the JSA route. What does your gut instinct say?

I personally wouldn't go to a company that jiggery pokerries around with positions so they can get it on the cheap but then I work for the NHS...........go with your gut instinct Steve then you will have no regrets.

Just an extra thought, would you be required to pay for your own police check for the position with children or would they provide that for you.
This is what I would do. Take the better paid job but let the other know you are still interested. Employers have the upper hand at the moment, they have already messed you around.

The problem is I feel loyalty for the company I've just done 6 weeks unpaid work for.
Its only a small company, 5 employees including me.

The council tend to work 7.5hours a day. So 16 hours would be over 3 days but 30 hours over 4 days!

A job isn't offered Voluntary Redundancy - people are. It's completely different to enforced redundancy.

So it looks like I'll be planting kids and teaching trees.
More hours but hourly rate lower but overall more money.
Other positive about this job is a chance of getting out in the sun/rain as theres no natural light in the other position.
