No thanks, I'll stick with free range, just won't buy chicken so often

Oh, and I have a new regimen with the potty training:

    - take puppy into bed with me
    - when she wriggles, she wakes me up. That means it's time to take her out for a toilet

It worked last night ~ poo stop at half midnight, then into her crate. Clean crate this morning

Mr TS had a day off, so I put him in charge of the puppy all day. No messes in the house, dog fed = TS happy

Just a warning! Unless you intend your pup to always spend time in your bed, don't start! Its a really difficult habit to break. My Mum looked after the dog while we were on holidays and felt "sorry" for him, so had him upstairs each night on the bed.
We left a dog who was not allowed upstairs and came back to one that ran upstairs and jumped on the bed at every opportunity.

^ yeah, I know. And I was the one who said NO DOGS ON BEDS! when we got her. I don't mind, she sheds less hair than OH does and her farts are quieter

Wee is one problem, poos are another.
I wouldn't split the last meal of the day, I'd be gradually reducing the middle one until it vanishes when she's about 10 months old, and then start reducing breakfast. Feed the main meal early evening, take her out about 20 mins after that, and odds are she will poo in that time (perhaps 2 poos within 10 mins or so). Fewer, bigger feeds WILL help with poo-control.
If you intend to continue 2 meals a day indefinitely (lots of people do, especially with smaller types), I would make it 1/3 of the day's ration for breakfast, 2/3 for evening dinner, ours get 1 meal a day plus training treats, Shadow was on 2 meals a day at 6 months, 1 at a year. Training treats are tiny, but tasty, often home-made.
Shadow sleeps on a chair in my bedroom (as Gemma did) and knows that being allowed on the bed is 'occasional' (but most mornings he wants a game early on), you CAN make the rules to suit your own situation, just keep the rules consistent (they can be quite complex, as in 'allowed when X, not allowed when Y') and it can be anything you like!
Wee-control might mean removing water-dish an hour or so before bedtime, she will probably drink a lot first thing, and wee soon after. I've never tried this version because it's never been a serious problem.

Because of her breed, and shortened muzzle, she can't have large meals: she chokes. She has to has little meals, more often

Yep, I do that too. She manages to hold her wee all night (so much for the 2 hr bladder then), and she doesn't often wee in the house at all.
It's poos. She did another one today in the kitchen, 20 mins after she'd been outside and done 3 wees

my 2 beagles took until 6 months to be properly house trained and there are now still acccasional overnight accidents at 8 months of age, we have never used a crate and thankfully have no downstairs carpets so it can be mopped down. they always seem to wee in their bed after we have washed it though - scent marking I guess. we just did as you do - praise for going outside and if we saw thy were about to go we carried them out.

bear with it - it will happen!

We had a perfect dog, bless him as he is no longer with us having now passed away. However, we had a cat prior to the dog and the cat really hated the dog. This loving purring cat turned into a cat monster and we eventually separated them with the cat staying in one room. One day the perfectly house trained dog found his way into the cat's room when we were out. We had to replace the carpet. There was not a scrap of carpet which was not covered in poo and he wasn't ill. We called it the labrador's revenge. This only happened the once so you really have my sympathy. My sister in law had a rescue dog and used the newpaper method to train her dog by moving the newspaper towards the back door and then outside but she was lucky as she had her dog in the summer months but it did take quite a while.

Guess who had a totally clean day y'day?

And guess who didn't poop in her crate, despite not having had her customary midnight poop in the garden?

(I wonder if the change is down to the fact that she's now going on walkies?)

OK, a little update. We were doing great, with me getting up at midnight to poop her outside, then again at 6am. It's making me so tired & grumpy though, I need 9 hrs straight sleep a night. Then I take her out every hour too, and make sure she does a poop an hour after every meal.

Nobody else is volunteering to do it, although Somebody did promise to before we got the dog ...

Anyway, she wees outside no problem. Poops though, are apparently for In The House. Two this week, on the carpet at bottom of stairs. Totally my fault, I'd let her off the umbilical cord (her lead, tied to me).

Today I unexpectedly had to stay at school and the poor dog was in her crate for 6 hrs (bad momma). I expected a terrible mess on my return, but no: she's saved it all up and was absolutely busting when I let her out in the garden Two poops in half an hour !

I'm using the one command "OUT!" for going outside to toilet (although Himself insists on saying "come on come on come on" instead), and just now ~ Wow! She got fidgety on my lap, so I asked her "wanna go OUT?" and she SPRINTED for the back door, slipping & sliding on the tiles, lol. Ran out in the rain and did her business.

I'm so pleased, thanks again for all your advice & support. She's not there yet, but now I know she understands what she should be doing ... going OUT

Once she has been trained, TS, she is going to be one seriously adorable doggy! She already has the looks!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Maybe I've missed something but can I ask why she was 10 months old when you got her. Did the breeder rescue her or something?

She's only 8 months now, and we've had her a month

The breeder doesn't advertise her puppies: she keeps most of them. When I enquired, she still had three from a previous litter that she intended to keep or give to family, but then we tempted her with filthy lucre

A big step forward. Well done both. Makes potty training toddlers look like a doddle.
