He does clean up, he's good about that, it's just ... he needs to prevent the pooping, not just clean up afterwards. It really frustrates me that I have a system that works, and he has to override or change it.

I think maybe you need to get a crate for him!

I just noticed this is an older post, but...

For your dog to go outside it needs a regular schedule of being let out "x" amount of times per day. I always let my dogs out first thing in the morning and just before bedtime for starters.

Yes, no accidents whatsoever since my last post. I'm very pleased with her, and almost thinking of getting a new puppy

In that case, all I can say is you've got stamina TS. And possibly true grit, too!

My breeder has another 4 puppies for sale, and for a moment there I thought, "oh, a matching pair, how cute would they be?"

Specially as your breeder sells 8 month old puppies that haven't had any sort of house training.

The first day, she was outside for a L-O-N-G time !

... for 4 days now she's been pooping on command, every time ... she goes within 30 mins of eating, or she doesn't come inside the house.

Just an update, and a bump for The Seahorses and Mable.

The toileting changed again with the introduction of a raw food diet: the dog goes less often, and it takes longer to go through her system, but she really can control her bowels & bladder now.
She has dinner at 5pm, then a poo before 9pm, and she lasts until I get up at 7.30am. (If I wake up and she's stood on my chest, it means she can't wait much longer!)

We are aware of her habits now: the dog is always by my side, always. If she wanders off and we can't see her, she can usually be found waiting patiently by the back door.
I tried training her to ring a bell or squeeze a squeaky toy at the back door, but it didn't catch on.

btw, I highly recommend a Raw Food Diet: her breath & farts are loads better, less smelly, and her poops are smaller, firmer, not stinky. Cost: depends on Asda specials and Bogofs, but about 45p a day

                      • Glad to hear you've cracked it, TS! The Raw diet is ace - less poo, less smell, clean teeth, clean breath - and at least you know what they're eating. Mine has a mix of Raw and Kibble (but only the hypo-allergenic stuff), as he just has far too much energy on a totally Raw diet, and with the winter we've had, weather-wise, I prefer him not to be climbing the walls.

                        • It's amazing how diet influence dogs. My dog had seizures every few weeks and she was always itchy. She was being feed CSJ K9, which is a good brand. A nutricionist told me to stop giving her corn, soya, rice, etc. because she suspected my dog may had food intolerances, etc. So, I started feeding her Fish4Dogs, salmon based kibble and salmon oil. She never had another seizure and she stopping being itchy, her fur is more shiny, etc.

                            • Ours are kept off chicken, beef and pork as well as dairy and a few other things. Both as fit as fiddles on an ethical brand of kibble with fresh fruit and veg in it too. One of our dogs has epilepsy and meningitis due to the breed type. When we got her she had a seriosly bad skin infection too. Diet helps keep that in check too.

If it comes out of the ground easily, it is a valuable plant.

Yeah! Sometimes I go to Sainsburys late, because they reduce the price on products that are due to go out of date. Always there are lot of fresh salmon. The only bad thing about feeding her fish is her breath, fishy fishy!
