See, this is the reason I prefer to DIY. Mr VVG and I looked at hiring a mini digger in order to pull off the hardcore/breaking Tarmac, where the polytunnel is going. But we couldnt get one for close to a month. So we called a bloke in the village with a landscaping company to ask him if he could do the job. He has no digger but knows a man who does. So it was booked nearly two weeks ago, for today. Twenty minutes ago I told Mr VVG to call him as we had not seen digger man as yet. Mr VVG said he'll be here soon. I was insistent - "call him!" the poor sweet had got his days mixed up! Tough horse muck mate! After hearing Mr VVG state "he can do it tomorrow" the following happened...
I shoot to my feet, snatch the phone and say "he's booked a day off! No it isn't OK! We have a skip arriving which I am not prepared to rearrange. No he will not be here tomorrow, he has to work. I will not be here tomorrow on the whim that you may turn up or not, if anything like today. Do you want the job or not? Plenty of people do in this current economic climate!"
    Him "I'll get someone over."
Me "Good and I'm paying you a day rate. If you arrive at noon, you'll get precisely half the figure quoted!"
Don't folks want the work...sometimes I hate the world

Oh yes hadn't thought of it in that way. Hope he digested kippers this morning, then I can have the full monty. Thanks for making me smile VC! I wouldn't mind but Mr VVG is way too nice and he has taken a rare day off work for this...now I'm angry again!

Thanks VC and to cap it all I've had a tearful mum on the phone to say the doctors won't call on her dying mum. I'm about to swing for someone. The doctor will ring me back apparently. The day gets worse.

Skip arrives...I'm sat at bottom of drive with car to make room. I've just had a voicemail flash...phone never rang. "What's going on" playing on the radio. Just about sums it all up. I long for a day strolling in the sun at Malvern

PS Thanks for all the toms. They're safely in the greenhouse now, enjoying a bit of Welsh sunshine! Such a fantastic variety and wonderful names. Looking forward to the taste tests next!

Hey chicky. I guess we should meet up and go kick some tyres.
No chippings or top soil today as their lorry has broken down. At least they called and had a genuine excuse. I'm passed caring now, in some ways, as it has all gone Pete Tong. Have managed to get a Dr up though and am on my way to join him. I decided my mother's needs were greater than my own today.
Raining ice balls here so I may move to Wales anyhow. Who needs a landscaped garden
Hope your day improves Zaz chuck.

Our "friend" is a painter, but has struggled to find work for a couple of years now. So, he diversified into window cleaning. He did ours once, badly, but I put him right, he finished properly and so I booked him for a month's time ~ he didn't show up.
I had also recommended him to a friend of mine ~ he didn't turn up. No phone call or text either, no apology.

We didn't speak for several months because I didn't want an argument about it. I cooled off, then texted him recently, are you still cleaning windows? Yes, yes, need the work. Come tomorrow then. OK I will.

                          Didn't show up.

I won't be phoning him again.

When I read the title, I had an image of 'to the manor born', and where's jeeves?

Todays lesson, always ring the day before to double check said persons are coming, if they don't answer or call you back they are not coming.

I deal with tradesmen all day long, finding ones that don't bury their heads in the sand takes time and a lot of effort, you also generally find they are booked up well in advance.

Someone who knows someone down the pub, generally speaking aren't reliable.

Sorry VVG, I hope you get it all done.

Sorry darling, I am the maid, cook, cleaner, gardener, skivvy

Digger man has just turned up and I so want to swear at this point (but I won't mods). Is it worth it at two o'clock? Gravel and soil are arriving in two mini tippers as their little cherry picking crane jobby wotsit is still out of action. I now have to shovel the stuff twice as its not in a bag and they won't come around the back, because horror of horrors you have to drive through woodland. It's a straight track. I've done it in an Astra. Still want to hit somebody and I'm not prone to violence usually.
